Graham and Hannah's engagement started in pure San Francisco fashion, with a sky full of fog on a forecasted sunny day. Hannah was busy because she was planning Graham's birthday dinner (so she thought) and was up early making enchiladas and more specifically, homemade refried beans- thank you, Cheryl McCurdy. Graham had told Hannah he would pick her up around 11:30 for an alleged sailing meeting at the marina. Graham texted Hannah as promised at 11:15 that he was headed her way, to which Hannah responded "oh shoot"—code for I'm not ready yet. She hung up her FaceTime with her longtime friend Ana and rushed to look presentable for the meeting, but opted to save really getting ready for later before his dinner due to the fog conditions on this alleged boat. Graham picked Hannah up, immediately noting how she had a bright orange children's bandaid on her right thumb from a cheese grater incident earlier that morning. The car ride was normal to Hannah's standard, but when approaching the water, she noticed Graham acting strange. He was dodging eye contact, changing topics, and ultimately asked Hannah if she wanted to take a walk since they were early, which set off Hannah's internal alarm bells (it was foggy, windy, cold) . After a short walk to the pier, in front of the fog-covered Golden Gate Bridge, Graham got down on one knee. In shock, mostly because Graham was asking on HIS birthday weekend, Hannah said YES and they celebrated with their small San Francisco crew and Hannah's sister and Maid of Honor, Andrea, who Graham flew in for the occasion. Not only is Graham selfless, opting to use his special weekend to celebrate them as a couple, he's also smart—letting Hannah plan her own engagement dinner and raising no suspicion.
