Once upon a time, while perusing the Bumble dating app, Heather came across the profile of a man who piqued her interest. Unbeknownst to her, Michael had also been perusing Bumble, and he had recently found a similar interest in Heather's profile. For those unfamiliar with Bumble, both participants have to "swipe right" on each other in order to be matched. Once matched, the girl has to make the first move within 24 hours, or else the match is lost forever! GASP! On September 27, 2021, Heather "swiped right" on Michael's profile, and later in the day, Michael "swiped right" on Heather's profile, leading to a match! As a result, September 27 is now infamously - and lovingly - referred to as Heather and Michael's "Bumble-versary"! From Heather's POV: So as you can imagine the stress I was under when I realized we matched LOL. The first thing that caught my eye from looking at his profile was his big ole smile and his eyes! He had a couple of pictures of friends and family on there, so I knew he was a good guy just from that, but he also answered a question on his profile that said, "What's the nerdiest part about you?". His answer was, "Probably that drumming thing I do." If you know me, you know I also did "that drumming thing" AND "that band thing". But Michael didn't know that...so I used it to my advantage for my first message and said, "So tell me about that drumming thing you do", and the rest is history! We ended up having mutual drumline friends who vetted how amazing he was - which helped because my dad went all FBI mode and researched Michael lol. Before Michael, I didn't know anything about the hype of hockey, the true meaning of family (regardless of blood relation or not), or whether I'd ever find someone that would love me for ME. But I found him and here we are! Thank GOODNESS! I can't wait to celebrate our big day surrounded by everyone who loves us :) From Michael's POV:Like so many in our generation, Heather and I didn't meet in a bar, or at school, or on a blind date; we met through an online dating app. And thank goodness we did! Dating is hard enough to begin with, but especially in a world that was just starting to recover from a pandemic! Making friends outside of marching band has never come easily to me - as evidenced by the content on my Bumble profile - so when I learned that Heather was also a "band nerd", my heart skipped a beat! That was, of course, after I had already been charmed by her stunning looks and incredible sense of humor, neither of which I had even experienced in person yet! After a few weeks, we finally decided to meet for an in-person date. My grand idea for this first date? Sitting through a 3-hour movie, silently... How brilliant! Fortunately, we met for dinner before the movie, and the whole evening was amazing. If you thought Heather did all the talking at dinner (at least to begin with), you'd be mistaken! Shocking! Plus, Heather convinced us to go and watch a 1.5-hour movie instead - a much better decision! I still remember the night when I took Heather to meet my parents for the first time, and after we all went home, Dad turned to Mom and I and said "I think we just met our future daughter-in-law." I knew deep down that my relationship with Heather was special, and it certainly felt good to hear that same validation from others. I've hit the jackpot, and we're so excited to celebrate the beginning of this next chapter with everyone!
