Online dating….two words that for many bring up unpleasant memories and perhaps last night’s dinner. But for us, it’s what brought our worlds together. But our story isn’t as simple as a click of the button…

You see, both of us were worn down from online dating. Failed date after date, mismatched personalities, and lack of connection had both of us ready to cancel our subscriptions to Match.com and live our lives single for the foreseeable future. Dating in Houston isn’t easy. It’s a large city (can fit the state of Rhode Island in it) and this proved challenging just to find someone willing to engage if you weren’t within their same area code. It wasn’t until July 5th, 2018 I (Heather) came across Gerardo’s profile and saw a picture of his dog Doc that made me reach out and share a dad joke to break the ice.

Now, full disclosure: My match “requirements” were quite specific (ahem- height minimum of 6’), which didn’t automatically “match” the two of us together. But, after our first message, that “requirement” was history. Our conversations were easy and we would spend hours chatting about our lives, hobbies, work, and exchanging corny jokes.

When it was time for our first date, we met at one of our favorite bars in Houston called Under the Volcano. The date was effortless as we both just “clicked” with one another. Our energy, interests, and desire to truly connect versus simply date made dating easy! So easy, in fact, that we went on several more dates in the next week and made it “official” July 25th, 2018.

Fast forward to now, being together through these past 5 years has been an amazing experience. We are each other’s biggest supporters, always striving to improve both as individuals and as a couple. We still say silly “dad jokes” and even narrate our pets conversations on a daily basis. We’ve even survived a pandemic together! While being in a relationship isn’t always easy, being with the right person is. We are excited to take the next step in our relationship and celebrate our marriage with you!
