Where exactly is the venue located?
The venue is located in the Athens Riviera, which is a stretch of coastline located in the suburbs of Athens. It is known for its beautiful sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and picturesque seaside towns. Some of the most well-known towns along the Athens Riviera include Vouliagmeni, Glyfada, Voula, and Varkiza/Vari (which is where our reception will take place).
What are the transportation details?
A bus & shuttle service will be provided for guests. It will depart from Glyfada Hotel at 5:30 PM to transport everyone to the wedding. Return transportation will be available at 2:30 AM from the venue to the hotel.
Taxis will also be readily available for guests who prefer alternative transportation options.
What should I wear?
The attire is semi-formal; tuxes and gowns are welcome, and so are suits and cocktail dresses. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Both the ceremony and reception will be outside. The weather in June is typically hot during the day (~85 degrees) but could cool off at night, especially near the water, so we recommend factoring this into your decision.
How can I travel to the Greek Islands from Athens or Vouliagmeni?
Some Greek islands have airports you can fly into from Athens International Airport. These islands include: Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Milos, Naxos, Crete, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Corfu, Rhodes, Chios, and more.
All islands are also accessible by ferry boat. The largest port in Greece is Piraeus, which is approximately 15-25 minutes from downtown Athens and 25-45 minutes from Vouliagmeni, depending on traffic. You can also take the metro from Athens to the port of Piraeus.
What ferry boat company should I book?
The most popular ferry companies in Greece are Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic Seaways, Seajets, Fast Ferries, and Minoan Lines, depending on origin and destination. We recommend booking in advance rather than at the port since summertime is high season and tickets may be limited.
What should I know about eating in Greece?
Greeks typically eat late. Lunchtime is between 1:30 and 3:00 p.m.; dinner is usually around 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. Of course, restaurants in the more tourist-centric areas will serve lunch as early as 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m. and dinner starting at 7:00 p.m., but the restaurants will most likely be empty with fewer locals.
Reservations are not necessary for most restaurants in Athens, a city known for casual tavernas and outstanding street food. Most restaurants don’t take reservations. However, it's a good idea to reserve a table in advance for fine dining or for dining with a view at rooftop restaurants and bars.
Are AirBnB's available in the Athens Riviera?
Yes! There are some great AirBnB options in the Athens Riviera. If you would like to consider this as an option (especially if looking to book a place to stay with a bigger group), we would recommend narrowing your search to the towns of Vouliagmeni, Glyfada and Vari
Packing reccomendations
1. Passport (REQUIRED): European Union countries require U.S. passports to have at least six months of validity and two blank pages for entry. If your passport expires within six months of your travel dates, you cannot travel to EU countries. Check your passports and if they are expiring, make sure to process your renewal application well in advance of your travel dates. Standard renewals generally take between 8-11 weeks to process
2. Electrical adaptor for Europe: Greece uses Type C and F power outlets which are essentially the same throughout Europe. You'll want to look for type A/B to type C/F when shopping for adaptors.
3. International Phone Plan: You can contact your phone provider to add an international plan. If you do this, ensure you know this option's terms, conditions, and fees.
- If you have a wifi connection, apps such as Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp are good to use to avoid/reduce fees from your carrier.
4. Cash / Credit Card with Zero Foreign Transaction Fees: Greece is part of the European Union which uses the Euro. A credit card with no foreign transaction fees will be a great way to pay for things in Greece. Just be sure to notify your credit card company that you will be traveling internationally. We also recommend having some Euro with you on hand to cover any expenses that come up and to pay for Taxi's.
