Wedding Day Schedule

Welcome to our fusion wedding! Our celebration blends South Asian (Desi) and American traditions, and many of the customs throughout the evening may be new to guests. This program is here to help you follow along and enjoy every moment.

5:00 PM – Ceremony

We begin with the Nikah, the Islamic marriage ceremony, where the couple formally accepts the marriage in the presence of family and friends as witnesses. Prayers and blessings are offered for a peaceful and joyful life together.

5:30 PM – Cocktail Hour

After the ceremony, enjoy refreshments and appetizers. This is a relaxed time to mingle.

6:30 PM – Reception Begins

Doors open for the reception. Find your seats and get ready for the evening’s events. Our reception blends multiple South Asian wedding traditions into a single celebration—bringing together elements of a shaadi and mehndi in one vibrant evening that we're calling Shendi

6:45 PM – Baraat Entrance

The reception kicks off with the Baraat, where the groom’s family and close friends make a lively entrance. Accompanied by traditional South Asian drummers with upbeat, parade-style rhythms, the group dances their way into the venue. They are then warmly welcomed by the bride’s parents and family, symbolizing both households coming together in celebration.

6:55 PM – Bride & Groom Entrance + First Dance

The couple makes their entrance as newlyweds, followed by their first dance.

7:05 PM – Photo Time with the Bride & Groom

Guests are invited to take photos with the bride and groom. This is a lovely opportunity to congratulate the couple, share warm wishes, and capture special memories with family and friends.

7:20 PM – Joota Chupai

A fun wedding game! In Joota Chupai (“shoe-hiding”), the bride’s side playfully steals the groom’s shoes and negotiates for their return. Expect laughter, cheering, and lighthearted bargaining.

7:30 PM – Dinner

Enjoy dinner featuring a blend of South Asian and American dishes.

8:20 PM – Cake Cutting

The couple will cut the cake before we continue with the festivities.

8:30 PM – Choreographed Dancing

Family and friends perform choreographed dances inspired by Bollywood as part of traditional South Asian wedding festivities. You can enjoy the show or participate—many of our loved ones from around the country are creating their own choreographed Bollywood-style performances. These can be solo, with a partner, or as a group. If you’d like to take part, just let us know!

9:00 PM – Open Dance Floor

Everyone is invited to dance!

11:00 PM – Send-Off

We close the evening with Ruksati, the ceremonial send-off as the couple departs and begins their new life together.

What is the dress code?

Our dress code is Black Tie Optional — which means you’re encouraged to go all-out, but you definitely don’t have to. Think of it this way:– A tuxedo or a floor-length evening gown is always a great choice…– But a sharp suit with dress pants is just as appropriate. And a below-the-knee or midi cocktail dress works beautifully too. So go ahead and grab the outfit that makes you feel your most polished and fabulous, whether that’s classic black tie or a dressed-up, formal look. If you’d like to show up in Desi formal attire, we love that—lehengas, shalwar kameez or gowns, and kurtas are all encouraged. Bring the sparkle, the color, the embroidery… we’re here for it.

What time should I arrive for the ceremony?

Please plan to arrive by 4:30 PM so everyone can be seated before the 5:00 PM ceremony begins.

Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?

Both the ceremony and reception will be held indoors, so no need to worry about weather, heels sinking into grass, or bringing extra layers.

Is there parking at the venue?

Yes, there is ample complimentary on-site parking.

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by May 1 at the latest. Early responses are greatly appreciated, so the sooner the better!

What exactly is the Nikah ceremony?

The Nikah is simply the wedding ceremony. It includes the officiant guiding the couple through their vows, along with short Arabic readings and blessings. Guests simply sit and observe.

What is the Baraat? Can I join in?

In a traditional Desi wedding, the baraat is when the groom rides in with his family and close friends.But this is a fusion wedding—so plot twist: the groom will not be in the Baraat.Instead, the groom’s family and a select group of his close friends will make a lively entrance on behalf of his side. Think of it like his hype squad showing up first. They’ll be accompanied by traditional South Asian drummers with upbeat, parade-style rhythms that make it basically impossible not to dance a little. Guests will watch the fun from inside the venue while the bride’s family welcomes them in. The groom (and bride!) will get their own grand entrance later—because everyone deserves their own moment.

What is Joota Chupai?

Joota Chupai literally translates to “shoe hiding,” and it’s exactly what it sounds like. In this tradition, the bride’s family and friends steal the groom’s shoes during the wedding festivities. The shoes are then basically held for ransom until the groom negotiates (and usually pays!) to get them back. It’s all in good fun and meant to be a lighthearted, spirited game between both sides of the family.

Is there assigned seating for the reception?

There will be assigned tables, but not assigned individual seats. You’ll find your table number upon arrival, and then you’re welcome to choose any seat at your table.

Can I bring a plus-one?

As we’ve planned our day, we’ve been intentional about creating a meaningful experience with those closest to us. We kindly ask that guests attend as listed on their invitation.
