We're so excited to share a few things we love about this island
and are "must dos" while on vacation on O'ahu!
Experience the fresh flavors of Hawaiian cuisine at the reimagined Kani Ka Pila Grille. This chic poolside restaurant and bar serves island cuisine with local ingredients and some of the best live Hawaiian music on its legendary stage (and, it's right downstairs in the Outrigger Reef Hotel for most of our guests!). Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this poolside oasis is the place for great food and great music.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki Beach, just head past the zoo to hang at the locals favorite beach (locals call it Kaimana Beach, you may hear it called by the English name "Sans Souci Beach"). A very laid-back ocean experience fronting the newly renovated Kaimana Beach Hotel. Spend the day at the beach and then head to the relaxed bar at KBH for a delicious cocktail paired with a gorgeous, world-renowned sunset.
A malasada is a Portugese doughnut without a hole. When Portugese laborers made their way to Hawaii to work on the sugar cane and pineapple fields, they brought their love for this deliciously fried treat to the local population. Generously-sized balls of dough are fried until their golden brown on the outside and light & fluffy on the inside.
Leonard's started making malasadas as part of the Portugese tradition for Shrove Tuesday back in 1953. Now, they make them continuously everyday and are considered Hawaii's Original Malasada Bakery!
Serving "'ono Hawaiian grindz" (Pidgin English for "delicious Hawaiian food") on O'ahu for over 75 years, a trip to the islands is not complete without sampling the best, most authentic Hawaiian food at Highway Inn.
The Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail, also known as the Kaiwi Scenic Shoreline, is the second most popular of all the Oahu hiking trails, next to the Diamond Head Hike. This easy to moderate summit trail is definitely one of the most memorable, with stunning views overlooking Makapu'u Beach, Koko Head, the windward coast, and Molokai & Lanai neighboring islands.
While many visitors to the island will spend all day trying to drive into the sleepy neighborhood of Lanikai to see the world famous Lanikai Beach, Waimanalo Beach has everything you would find at Lanikai without the crowds. You're sure to spend a relaxing day mixing with locals and getting a feel for the real, slowed down pace of the Windward side of O'ahu.
The Byodo-In Temple, located at the foot of the Ko’olau Mountains in Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, welcomes people of all faiths to worship, meditate or simply appreciate its beauty and history as a non-practicing Buddhist temple. Built in 1963, the Byodo-In Temple is a Hawaii state landmark and one of the states’s best kept secrets.
If you are taking a tour around the island, this is not-to-be-missed, tranquil addition to your adventures.
Truly the best and most authentic Polynesian & Hawaiian cultural center and lūʻau on island!
Spend the day exploring the rich heritage of the Pacific Islands. Wander through 42 acres of tropical splendor and enjoy the adventure of traditional hands-on activities. Dine like royalty at an authentic Polynesian lūʻau and top it off with the most spectacular evening show in the islands.
This family-owned shrimp truck has DA BEST garlic shrimp ever created on God's green earth! Just go hungry (and bring your breath mints 'cause you will smell like you are trying to keep hungry vampires away, lol!).
They have 3 locations on O'ahu but the original location in Kahuku is our favorite. :)
