We’re so excited to celebrate with you in beautiful Guatemala! Here’s a breakdown of the key dates and activities so you can plan your trip accordingly.
The additional days after the wedding are completely optional! If you’d like to stay longer but want to explore other parts of Guatemala, you’re more than welcome to do so. We’d be happy to provide recommendations for other incredible places to visit. Just let us know!
Most of our guests will be arriving on this day. If you fly in on 12/12 and have opted to stay in one of the shared houses, we will arrange shuttle services to pick you up from the airport and take you to the house in Antigua.
If you're staying in a different hotel, we can also arrange a shuttle service for you—just let us know in advance so we can help coordinate!
If you're arriving earlier than 12/12, the house won’t be available yet, but Antigua has plenty of charming boutique hotels to stay in—we’re happy to share recommendations!
To kick off the celebration, we’ll be hosting a welcome brunch at our house so everyone can meet, mingle, and settle in.
After brunch, we’ll have optional activities for those who want to explore Antigua! We’ll be sending out a sign-up sheet closer to the date so you can choose what interests you most.
The current activity options include:
- A walking tour of Antigua – Discover the city’s beautiful architecture and history.
- A coffee tasting & plantation tour – Experience Guatemala’s world-famous coffee culture.
- A rum tour & tasting – For those who love a good craft spirit!
The big day! We’ll start the morning with breakfast at the house, and you’ll have free time to explore before we get ready for the ceremony.
- 4:00 PM – Wedding Ceremony
- Followed by Dinner & After Party
We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
Many of our guests will be flying home, but for those staying longer, we’ll be heading to Lake Atitlán (about 2 hours away) for a two-night stay.
While at the lake, we’ll enjoy a boating day and visit the nearby villages, each with its own unique charm.
If you’re planning to join us at Lake Atitlán, we recommend booking your accommodations at one of these two hotels:
1. Porta Hotel del Lago
https://www.portahotels.com/porta-hotel-del-lago
A more budget-friendly option that’s simple and charming. While we haven’t stayed here personally, we’ve heard great things—especially since its recent remodel. It’s a solid option for a comfortable and affordable stay.
2. Hotel Atitlán
A more luxurious and well-known hotel, perfect if you're looking for a little extra relaxation and elegance while taking in the lake views.
No matter which hotel you choose, we recommend checking both the hotel’s official website and booking platforms like Expedia or Booking.com to compare prices and find the best rate.
We’ll head back to Antigua for a relaxing free day. That evening, we’ll stay there overnight in preparation for an exciting next-day adventure!
Since this is an open day with no formal plans, feel free to explore Antigua at your own pace. Whether you're interested in sightseeing, shopping, coffee tasting, or just enjoying the local charm, there's something for everyone.
For accommodations, you have a lot of flexibility! If you're traveling with a smaller group, booking an Airbnb can be a great way to enjoy a shared space. Otherwise, you’re welcome to stay at any hotel of your choice. Antigua has a wide range of options—from hostels to five-star hotels—so it really depends on your budget and preferences.
The only thing we strongly recommend is choosing a place in or near the historic center. This area is the most walkable and puts you close to restaurants, shops, and attractions.
Here are some hotel options across different styles and budgets:
A small boutique hotel in an excellent location. It may be a bit dated, but it's clean, reasonably priced, and convenient.
A well-known and classic choice. It’s a bit more upscale and offers beautiful grounds and a great location.
A perfect middle-ground option—nice rooms without being overly fancy or expensive, in a central location.
Simple and peaceful, with more greenery. It's a short walk from the city center and a great value.
A minimalist, modern boutique hotel that’s stylish and socially conscious. It is a bit farther from the heart of the city, so expect a slightly longer walk.
Highly rated and beautifully designed, this hotel blends modern style with Antigua’s historic charm. Located about four blocks south of the center—still very walkable.
My personal favorite! El Convento is a more luxurious option with elegant rooms, peaceful gardens, and an ideal location. It’s perfect if you’re looking to treat yourself.
As always, we recommend checking both the hotel’s website and booking platforms like Expedia or Booking.com to compare prices and find the best deal.
For the adventure seekers, we’ll be hiking Acatenango Volcano, one of National Geographic’s Top 25 Places to Visit.
- This is an overnight trek with a guided tour, where all food and sleeping arrangements will be provided.
- At the top, you’ll have an unforgettable view of lava eruptions from the neighboring active Fuego Volcano!
- We’ll wake up early to watch the sunrise over the volcano before hiking back down the next morning.
There are several great tour companies that offer guided hikes up Acatenango. Here’s one we recommend:
🥾 Wicho & Charlie’s
https://www.wichoandcharlies.com/acatenango-volcano-hike/
Wicho & Charlie’s is one of the most popular and highly rated tour operators for Acatenango. Their overnight hike includes:
- Roundtrip transportation from Antigua
- A-frame cabins at basecamp (no tents!)
- Warm 0° sleeping bags and insulated gear
- Guided hike with experienced locals
- All plant-based (vegan-friendly) meals including dinner, breakfast, lunch, and snacks
- Gear rentals available for jackets, hiking poles, and more
- Optional Fuego Volcano add-on for an even closer look at eruptions
They’re known for being well-organized, fun, and super safe. A great choice—especially if you’re looking for a vegan-friendly option!
🚙 Adventure Guatemala 4x4 Overnight Hike
https://adventureguatemala.com/tour/acatenango-4x4-overnight
Looking for a more relaxed (but still epic!) adventure? Adventure Guatemala offers a more accessible, high-end experience by taking you most of the way up the mountain via 4x4 vehicle—cutting out the steepest part of the hike.
- 4x4 transport directly to high camp
- Small group sizes for a more personal feel
- Cozy overnight camp with provided gear
- Local meals (note: not vegan-specific, so double-check if you have dietary restrictions)
- Professional bilingual guides and scenic stops along the way
Note: You’ll still need to complete a 2–3 hour hike from the drop-off point to reach the camp—less intense than the full hike, but still a workout!
This option is more expensive, but perfect if you're concerned about the full physical challenge or want a little extra comfort without missing the incredible volcano experience.
After hiking down, we will either stay another night in Antigua or head to Guatemala City to spend the day. If you’re ready to head home, this is also a great travel day!
We will be flying back home this day, wrapping up an unforgettable trip!
