Do you love museums? Do you love free stuff? The National Mall is full of free museums! Isabella's favorite is the National Gallery of Art; James's is the National Museum of African American History and Culture (make sure to get a reservation if you'd like to go - it's still free, but you have to book a time slot in advance).
You can witness the very spot where we got engaged! Bring a picnic, a hammock, and a frisbee to recreate our first "date" (we convinced ourselves we were just friends for a few months before we gave in and admitted we were in love...).
Come grab a cup of coffee at the spot where we first met. This is the best coffee in Washington, D.C., no doubt about it! Isabella's favorite is an iced oat milk latte - James's is just a cup of black coffee.
One of our favorite dive bars (of a long list) in the District. Don't forget to get a Moon Pie, a loose cigarette (I hope they're the last place in D.C. to sell them), and a pickled egg when you order a very strong Old Fashioned.
Go see our good friend Jeff - our favorite monument in the District (maybe even the world?!). Best seen at dawn or dusk.
The perfect mix of new and used, and a beautifully curated selection of some of our favorite genres - military history, poetry, and economics to name a few. Make sure to bring your receipt next door to Andy's for a free slice!
Catch a weekday show at the 9:30 club - just down the street from our first neighborhood in D.C. and next door to the U Street Corridor where you can dance the night away.
Looking for cute tchotchkes to take home as a souvenir from your time in D.C.? Looking to pay $8 for a cup of coffee while you browse? Union Market is the spot for you! Lots of local restaurants and boutiques.
Rent a bike from any number of bike share programs in the District and ride along the "MBT"! Taking you from our neighborhood in Fort Totten to the Capital Building, all the way to the Waterfront, and with loads of our favorite breweries and markets along its path, there is no better way to see the District!
Best accessed by bike, Roosevelt Island is a natural oasis smack dab in the middle of the Potomac River! Great for a serene walk to get out of the hustle of the city, bring a camera to capture some of the DMV's diverse wildlife! (Say Hello to Teddy when you see him!)
Take a stroll or bike ride through DC's largest public park (even bigger than NYC's Central Park!). You will be just in time for the leaves changing!
Come see the National Zoo! Sitting within Rock Creek Park, this is a great trip for the family. You may even get to see the return of the pandas to the National Zoo!
