Jackie and John met on Hinge in June 2019. After a few days of talking to each other on the app, John asked Jackie if she wanted to meet for a few drinks at a bar in Midtown Manhattan, to which Jackie happily said yes. At this date, their similar interests and senses of humor became immediately apparent. After the date ended, the two agreed to see each other again soon. After many dates (and a whole pandemic), the two moved in together in May 2021.

On December 23, 2023, John asked Jackie if she wanted to go out to one of their favorite restaurants for a night out before the holidays. When they came home, John asked Jackie to turn on the Christmas tree lights, and when Jackie turned around after doing so, John was there, down on one knee. After saying "Is this really happening?!" multiple times, Jackie finally said yes.
