185 Days To Go!

Flight

To get here, you’ll need to fly into Cape Town International Airport (CPT). This is the city’s international airport and the most convenient way to arrive for the wedding celebrations. We understand that many of you will want to extend your South African adventure, so please feel free to arrange your travel to Cape Town in a way that suits you best. We'd recommend arriving no later than November 15th.

Flights are typically released about one year in advance. Generally, first-release flights are more expensive, therefore we would recommend waiting to book until February / March 2026 onwards, however feel free to book whenever suits you best. There may be good holiday/new years deals. We’ll also be keeping an eye on prices and will share updates if we spot good deals.

Most major airlines fly to Cape Town, often via international hubs like London, Paris, Amsterdam, or Dubai. Popular carriers we'd recommend are KLM, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines.

Visas

You do not need a special visa to travel to South Africa. Americans & Canadians receive a 90 day tourist visa upon entry. Make sure your passport is valid for 30+ days after departure date, has two blank pages, and that you have a return ticket.

Transportation

There is no conventional public transport in Cape Town. Other than renting a car, Uber is the preferred mode of transport. When ordering, always be sure to check that your car has the correct license plate, correct car model, AND that the driver matches the photo. Do not order Uber Go, instead always order UberX and above.

Car Hire

Renting a car is very common in Cape Town - this is all dependent on your comfort level. Your regular G license from Canada is sufficient and South Africans drive on the left-hand side of the road. Speaking from experience, it took Jaclyn a day to adjust!

Should you wish to book car hire, you will be able to get a discount with Avis / Enterprise / Hertz using the below codes:

Coming soon

You don't require an International Diver's License (IDP), but we'd recommend having one in case of emergency. It typically costs about $30 at any local CAA location. You will also need 2 passport sized photos.

Currency

The currency in South Africa is South African Rand (ZAR). It is recommended to exchange some money before arriving in South Africa for tipping, however most places take credit cards. We'd recommend always having a bit of cash on you. If you're driving, you can tip the 'car guards' in the parking lot with some extra change when departing, however it is not necessary. Tipping in restaurants is generally around 12-15%, if it hasn't already been added to the bill as a service charge.

Tax is already included in the prices you see on the bill.

Wise

We're huge fans of a company called Wise. It's a fantastic option for travellers because it offers low-cost, transparent currency exchange rates and easy international spending. With a Wise card, you can pay in multiple currencies without hidden fees, and their real exchange rates help you save money compared to traditional banks. Plus, sending and receiving money abroad is quick and hassle-free, making it perfect for globetrotters who want to manage their finances seamlessly while on the go!

Communication

To stay connected, we'd recommend purchasing an e-sim before arriving. Whatsapp is the best method of communication when travelling in SA.

We'd recommend using Airalo.
