The FMM (Forma Migratoria Multiple) is a tourist permit required for U.S. citizens traveling to Mexico for tourism, business, or transit purposes. Upon entering Mexico, U.S. citizens must complete the form at the border or online before arrival, depending on the mode of travel. The FMM is typically valid for up to 180 days, allowing visitors to stay within the country for a specified period. It's important to keep a copy of the FMM with you during your trip.

Please note that if you are traveling through the San Ysidro border crossing the point of entry is "El Chaparral" and the Otay Mesa is called "Mesa De Otay"
Fly into San Diego International Airport (SAN) and pick up a rental car, ensuring with the rental company that it allows for driving into Mexico with proper insurance. Make sure you have your driver's license and passport for your return to San Diego. Drive South on Interstate 5 to the San Ysidro Border Crossing, about 20-30 minutes away, and cross into Tijuana. After crossing, take the toll roads for a smoother drive, and allow 1 to 1.5 hours to reach the wedding venue from the border crossing. The toll roads will require about $10 USD and are cash only. Be sure to plan for extra time at the border and on the road to ensure timely arrival.
When driving in Mexico please make sure you have a driver's license and a passport. Some insurance companies cover parts of Mexico but we recommend guest driving their personal cars to have Baja Bound Car Insurance
When crossing from Mexico to San Diego via the San Ysidro Border, there are three main lanes to consider: General, Ready, and SENTRI. Each offers different benefits depending on your travel status.
General Lane
The General Lane is for most travelers and offers a standard wait time for crossing. While it’s the most commonly used, the wait time can vary greatly depending on the time of day and day of the week. Expect a longer line, especially during peak hours or holidays.
Ready Lane
The Ready Lane is designed for U.S. citizens who have a valid RFID-enabled travel document (such as a passport card (not passport book) or a SENTRI card). This lane is typically faster than the General Lane, as it allows for quicker processing through the use of RFID technology to scan documents without needing to stop and manually show them to the officer.
SENTRI Lane
The SENTRI (Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection) Lane is the fastest option, available to pre-approved, low-risk travelers who have applied for and been granted SENTRI membership. Travelers using this lane are able to bypass long waits and are processed more quickly with dedicated lanes that use biometric and RFID technology for efficient clearance. SENTRI lanes are particularly advantageous for frequent travelers and those looking to save time during their border crossing.
>>How to apply for the SENTRI Card<<
Please be aware that Sunday is the peak traveling day at the border crossing and could take anywhere from 2-4 hours. We highly recommend traveling home on Monday, if possible or to pick up a Sentri or Global Entry Card to return to San Diego quicker. Passport card holders are also eligible for the Ready Lane that can reduce border crossing time.
