Jacqueline and Joel first met in 2013 when Joel kicked Jacqueline off of the tennis court she was warming up on in order to start his tournament match. Later on Joel got himself formally introduced since he was in search of a mixed doubles partner for a tournament the following spring. Jacqueline agreed to play the tournament which happened to be in Michigan where Joel is originally from. She had the opportunity to meet most of his family, while also hitting it off with Joel. Their tennis games complemented each other so Joel asked Jacqueline to partner up for a US Open Playoff event to attempt to win a wildcard into the mixed doubles at the 2014 US Open. The chemistry on court was undeniable as they won the regional and national playoffs to earn a spot in the US Open. The experience of playing on Grand Stand in front of 8,000 people only brought them closer and formed a special bond between them. However, after the US Open they both went back to their playing schedules so a real relationship wasn't feasible. The following year they teamed up for the US Open playoffs yet again, and made it to the finals of the national playoffs where Joel sustained a serious injury. It was devastating to lose an opportunity to make it into the US Open, but it was a tipping point. Joel started helping Jacqueline on tour and helped her rise through the ranks. As it turns out, love doesn't always mean zero in tennis.
