Boat Rentals - Portland Paddle is a great rental option for kayaks or paddleboards and you can either pick up from their location or request a drop off (perhaps for a small fee). (25 mins)


Bike Rentals - This website also can direct you to a number of the bike rental businesses in the Portland area


● Sailing - The Portland Schooner Co. is a great option for sails around Casco Bay. They offer both public cruises and private charter options.


Horseback Riding - Hearts and Horses Farm - Pony rides and individual lessons available. Typically need 4-5 days notice for reservations. (5 mins)


Golf - Nonesuch River Golf Course (15 mins)


Lakes -

Bresca and The Honey Bee on Sabbathday Lake - A hidden gem and local favorite. James Beard nominated chef Krista Desjarlais runs a low-key snackshop serving some of the best ice cream you’ve ever had on a sandy, shallow, very kid-friendly lakefront. Admission is between $5-$2 for the day and gives you access to swimming, picnic tables, beach, docks, and floats/tubes for rent. Also boat launch access is available. (45 min)


Sebago Lake State Park - Easy to spend a whole day or multiple days here. Trails for walking and biking, multiple beaches to access, as well as camping options. (45 min)


Additional options on Sebago Lake - not quite as broad as the state park, but good beach access for kiddo swimming. Each charges a modest admission fee - check website for details.

Beaches / Ocean -


Willard Beach - A fun beach for sand play and for being on the water, a bit rocky. Plenty of room to social distance. Not necessarily the best for swimming but wading is definitely possible. Try to time your visit so that you can hit Scratch Bakery, one of the best in Portland for bagels and sweets. (Double check whether Scratch is offering walk-in pick up or if it’s necessary to order ahead). Also don’t forget Red’s Dairy Freeze for soft serve ice cream on your way back! (30 min)


Ferry Beach - Big, broad, sandy beach. Nice shallows for kiddo swimming. Can even go clamming here. Limited food options in the area, best to plan to bring your snacks or a picnic. (25 min)


Two Lights State Park - no beach access but a lovely state park to explore. Lots of rocky coastline and short walking trails. Scales Restaurant - Offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Some of the best seafood in Portland. Reserve well in advance. Not uncommon for families with kids to dine with an early evening reservation.


Eventide Oyster Co. - Indoor and outdoor seating for lunch and dinner, upscale and inventive seafood options.


Crown Jewel - Take a ferry out to Great Diamond Island to enjoy this gem! Reserve in advance to ensure you do not arrive on the ferry to find a full house and very long wait. :)


Oxbow Beer Garden - Year round outdoor gem with wood fire pizza, firepits and incredible beers on tap!
