This story begins in 2011, in the Psychiatric Emergency Room at Elmhurst Hospital — a place that felt, at times, like a hopeless corner of the world. Jaison and Ashley were co-workers who quickly became friends. Alongside their colleagues, they shared lunches, celebrated birthdays, and supported one another through professional and personal milestones. Jaison would often stroll by with what he believed were smooth one-liners, to which Ashley would respond with a playful, “Bye, Jaison.” And just like that, the flirting began. Ashley claims Jaison made the first move, but — naturally — he insists otherwise.
