Once upon a time, within the walls of a crowded Westmount classroom a new chapter began on September 8th, 2015.

Mike entered the school ready to begin his grade 11 year. As the bell rang, he hurried off to his first class—Business Leadership—where destiny awaited.

Not far behind, Jamie arrived at the school with perfect timing, or so she thought. However, as she walked the hallways chatting with friends, the clock ticked on, and she found herself ten minutes late for class. When Jamie finally entered the room, her eyes scanned the crowded seats, and there, much to her surprise, was a very cute boy she’d never seen before, sitting at the table with her friends. The table was full, and there was no seat left for her. Annoyed, she decided to sit at a table in front them.

Not one to shy away from a challenge, Jamie boldly asked the cute boy, Mike, to switch seats with her. However, with a mischievous smile, he refused. Little did they know, this seemingly small moment would spark a tale that would forever intertwine their fates.

As the weeks passed, Jamie found herself facing backwards in class, much to the teachers dismay, as she and Mike became fast friends, whispering and laughing through every lesson. The teacher often had to ask them to stop talking or to turn around, but their bond grew stronger with each passing day.

One day, Mike confided in Jamie that he was struggling with his grade 11 biology class and was in desperate need of help. Jamie, saw an opportunity and she promised to help him—but only if he made her a deal. She would send him her completed biology assignments from last year if he bought her ice cream. Mike, eager to receive her assistance, readily agreed. A fair deal, he thought.

And so, on a cold February day Mike kept his promise. He took Jamie to the Upper James McDonalds, where they sat together, enjoying Smartie McFlurries. Jamie, her heart content with the ice cream, knew this was just the beginning of something that would last far beyond the classroom.

And so, as the years passed, the bond between Jamie and Mike grew even stronger, built on laughter, shared moments, and, of course many more ice cream dates. What began as a simple exchange in a classroom turned into a long lasting love.

They were no longer just classmates, but two companions who had learned that sometimes, the best things in life start with a simple exchange—and perhaps, a little bit of late arrival.
