What's the dress code?
Cocktail/Semi-Formal but dress for the weather. Aka if it's cold, have a jacket, if it's hot, don't have a jacket!
Will I need a jacket?
Yes! Please dress for the weather. The ceremony will take place outside, unless it's actively raining. It could be snowy or it could be in the 60's (Colorado weather is like Texas's in that way - it likes to keep everyone guessing). Break out the ski jackets, hunting coats, whatever you have which will keep you warm if it ends up being cold. No need to buy anything new - we love the idea of the pictures being colorful! The reception will be inside, so you'll be able to discard those layers if they clash with your outfit.
It's outside? So what shoes should I wear?
There will be a little walk (approximately 300 yards - but keep in mind Jane has no sense of distance so that could be way off!) to the reception side on an unpaved path. Feel free to bring shoes to change into for this little walk (We promise we won't tell anyone if you're in sneakers).
I'm worried about the weather - is driving to Estes Park okay?
Definitely! Estes Park is approximately an hour and a half from the Denver Airport, and the highway is very well maintained the whole way. There are no major mountain passes along the drive, and snow and ice should not be an issue. If you are worried, you can get an all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicle, but we've made the drive in cars of all sorts and never had any issues. Colorado has a great road trip site to check out current road conditions: https://www.cotrip.org/map.htm/@-106.34053,39.13807,8?show=winterDriving,roadReports,chainLaws
What if I don't want to rent a car?
There's a bus from Denver to Estes Park! Check out the Bustang here: https://ridebustang.com/estes-park/#bustang_to_estes
What if I don't want to drive to the actual wedding ceremony?
We will have a bus! The bus will be picking up at the Holiday Inn, where the room block is. There will be one pick up, and two drop off times (in case anyone gets tired early). Please RSVP if you plan to use the bus, as we will only have one bus! Additionally, you may leave your car there overnight - you just have to come pick it back up the next morning.
Can I use a rideshare?
Nope! Estes Park is a major tourist destination, but winter is the off-season, and rideshare is not a major thing there. If you plan to drive to the ceremony, then leave your car and take the bus back, make sure you have a friend who can drive you the next morning to go get it.
Can I bring my kids?
Sorry but no! We are having an 18+ wedding. If you need to bring your kids to Colorado, we can see if our coordinator has any childcare recommendations but no promises.
Are the ceremony and reception locations the same?
Yes! Everything will be at Wild Basin. The ceremony will be outside, then we'll head inside for cocktail hour, dinner, and the reception party.
I thought you were getting married in Estes Park...why does the venue say it's in Allenspark?
Allenspark is just south of Estes Park! It is also much smaller, so we wanted to stay in Estes Park where it is more convenient for food, lodging, etc.
So what's the drink situation at this shindig?
It will be an open bar! Just remember that one drink at altitude is like two drinks back in Texas, so please drink responsibly! Also remember...we will have a bus ;)
I have dietary restrictions, can you accommodate that?
Of course!! Dinner will be served family style, but any dietary restrictions will be accommodated. We have a good handle of who eats what, but if we forget to ask (we all know Jane can be scatterbrained) please make sure we're reminded of your restrictions.
Ceremony Phone Policy
We know we're going to look great...but please keep your phones put away and on silent for the ceremony. We will share our photos online and you can get those to your hearts content!
What is there to do in Estes Park?
So much!!!! Zach and I have been multiple times, and it has become one of our favorite destinations. There are cute shops, good food, Rocky Mountain National Park, snowshoeing, horseback riding, ice skating, and best of all, lots of elk!!
So Colorado....where do I participate in recreational activities?
Estes Park does not allow cannabis sales. If you plan to recreate while in Colorado, you will have to procure that before you get to Estes Park. Wild Basin is also a strict no cannabis venue, so please do not plan to bring anything to the wedding. Also please make sure to abide by all Colorado laws and rental rules regarding consumption.
If I have more questions, who should I ask?
If you have any other questions, please just ask Jane and Zach! Unless it is the day of the wedding just feel free to ask us any questions you have. If it's the day of the wedding.....still ask us we will just delegate someone else to answer those questions.
Anything else I should know?
Estes Park is at 7,500 feet elevation, and Wild Basin (our venue) is a little higher at 8,500 feet elevation. Altitude sickness is a real thing, so make sure to get plenty of water and plenty of rest!
