It all started January 2019 at the Alsip Police Department. Janet had just started her first day as a police officer, fresh out of the academy and ready to start her field training. Dan had just finished a 12 hour night shift and was ready to go home. There was radio silence between them.

Seven months after that first day, a few coworkers invited a group out for drinks at Deja Brew in Oak Lawn. As luck would have it, Dan picked a seat at the table directly across from Janet… and after about 3 amaretto stone sours, Janet finally worked up the courage to start talking with him. After a couple (or several, depending on who’s telling the story) of drinks at Deja Brew, and a few more at Bar 122, Janet and Dan both came to the same conclusion: yeah, I like this person a LOT. The two spent the next few months patronizing various breweries on the south west side, trying new restaurants, meeting one another’s families, and ultimately came to a second conclusion: yeah, I LOVE this person a LOT.

After 6 months of bliss, Dan and Janet’s relationship withstood the ultimate test: a global pandemic and the hell that was 2020. From the emotional turmoil that came with work, worrying about family members getting sick, and just trying to get through the mental strain of quarantine, Dan and Janet figured if they could handle 2020 together, they could face just about anything.

And they’ve done just that. From home ownership, to career changes, to owning a cat (and then two cats), to broken appliances, ER trips, home renovation projects and all the fun, difficult, messy, amazing parts of life, Dan and Janet have done it together.

And they’ll do it together for a lifetime.
