Our Story

How we met

Jason and Julia met in high school in Albuquerque and were great friends.

They both moved to Texas for college (Julia to Fort Worth and Jason to Austin) and remained close friends. They saw each other during school breaks in Albuquerque and while driving through each others' cities. During the Spring of 2021, Julia made several visits to Austin, and romantic interest grew. That summer, they were both home in Albuquerque, started going on dates, and their relationship began. After dating long distance for two years, Julia moved to Austin after graduation where they have enjoyed living in the same city!

The Proposal (from Julia)

I was under the impression that my dad was coming to visit for the weekend, so every little thing that should have given it away did not phase me. Jason pulled off a great surprise! I had been in Tennessee the day prior for a graduate school interview and we had planned to have a little picnic date before my dad got into town. Once there, Jason asked if I wanted to dance, and played a couple of our favorite songs and we danced on this patio as the sun was setting. After a bit, he pulled out a letter and had me read it (I was completely oblivious even up until this moment). Once I was about halfway through the letter, he leaned over and asked how far through the letter I was, and that's when I realized he was waiting on me and what was happening. He proposed and I said yes! We headed to get drinks, and a few minutes later, in walked my parents and his parents to surprise me, and we had the sweetest evening all together!

Our Testimonies

Her story:

I was raised in a Christian home, and witnessed my mother’s discipline in reading the Bible, praying often, and watched her live out the gospel. In early high school, I became more connected to our church community and began to be discipled. This is where I learned how to study the Bible, and began to understand the depths of my sin, God’s holiness, and the grace of Jesus. I surrendered my life to the Lord and was baptized in high school. In college, I found sweet community through friends in my sorority and my church, who showed me how to pursue a relationship with the Lord and walk with Him. Through the many hardships I experienced while in college, the Lord held me fast and strengthened my dependence on Him. I believe that I have been redeemed by Jesus’ blood and now live in freedom and joy because of what Jesus has done for me.

His story:

I grew up in a Christian home, and had the gift of seeing both of my parents involved in church, and the importance they placed on community and service. From a young age, I was exposed to the gospel through attending church with my family, and made it a priority to serve at my local church. Through this service, I built relationships with many Godly people, and started to recognize both my sinfulness and God’s incredible holiness, and how Jesus’ teachings and ultimate sacrifice on the cross applied to my life. I gave my life to the Lord my junior year of high school, and moved to Austin for college. Although I struggled to find solid Christian community in my first couple of years of college, the Lord worked in great ways, and eventually led me to a local church in Austin that has provided me with great community and Biblical teaching, valuing the gospel and leading me to see more and more of my need for Jesus. I believe that I fall short daily of God’s glory, but that through Jesus I am made right before God, and therefore can live with the joy and peace that only Christ provides.

Our story:

We believe that we were created in God’s image. We were born sinful, and our sin has separated us from communion with God, and the punishment for our sin is death. As part of His plan to ransom His people, God sent his son, Jesus, to take on flesh, live a perfectly sinless life on earth, and be crucified on a cross. By his death, Jesus took the sins of all humanity upon himself, paid the penalty we deserve and repaired the separation our sin caused between us and the Lord. Because of Jesus’ death, our sins have been paid for, and we now live in communion with God, which will be experienced fully in heaven.

What we are up to next

After the wedding, the Lyons will remain in Austin for roughly a month until Julia heads to Fort Worth, Texas to begin Physician Assistant school. Meanwhile, Jason will finish his Masters in Business Administration and soccer season in Austin, after which he will join Julia in Fort Worth. The two will call Fort Worth home for at least the next couple years!
