Love works in mysterious ways. Jeanette and her family moved to Topeka from the city of Angels. A new beginning full of potential and opportunities. During her first months in Topeka, Jeanette applied to many jobs but had no luck. One afternoon, she got a call from Olive Garden; little did she know this call would change her life forever, and she would meet the love of her life at this place of endless breadsticks and salad.
David worked at Olive Garden during his college years; he was on the verge of finishing his Bachelor's degree at KU when he first met Jeanette. Jeanette got hired as a host, and David was a busser (you know, the guy that cleans tables). One night, David closed the restaurant while Jeanette trained as a host; this was their first encounter.
David noticed that this new girl had something special about her. Maybe it was the fact that she was so nice (maybe because she wanted to make a good impression being the new girl in town), maybe it was her sweet voice and mannerisms, or maybe it was her beauty (you know, nails done, hair done, everything done).
Every shift, David would clock in. The first thing he would do was walk by the host stand and say, "Hi, Jeanette." She always replied with a sweet voice, "Hi, David." This would go on for weeks; they would work until close and exchange conversations about music, food, or random interests.
One day, David had an essential interview for school, and he used this opportunity to ask Jeanette for help (remember, nails done, hair done, everything done. This girl knew how to dress to impress, and David needed to impress at this interview lol). David needed help picking out an outfit for this vital interview and sought Jeanette's help; this would also give Jeanette an excuse to explore this new town and see what it had to offer. Little did she know that David had planned for them to go to Kansas City. After all, everyone knew that when you shop for something, you want to go to KC.
Jeanette hesitated at first; she didn't know whether to go or not. After all, David was only a work friend and still sort of a random guy, not someone she had any interest in. David reassured her that this outing was only as friends, nothing more. She agreed, and they settled on a date and time.
At this "only as friends date/shopping outing," something would change in both of them and sparked the beginning of something beautiful. They did indeed go shopping; they went nuts going from store to store, seeing what KC had to offer; after all, this was the first time she explored the new town and city without her family, and she had yet to make any close friends here. This day was magical; you would think the two would have gotten tired or bored of one another, but their conversation kept flowing, getting to know things about one another, and time didn't seem to pass them. They had dinner in KC, and it was here where David found out the love of food Jeanette had (if you know her, you know she always is down to eat/snack, lol).
They kept exploring KC, almost as if time itself did not matter. Then suddenly, Jeanette's phone rang. It was her mom asking her when she would be home, and she started to get worried. Jeanette told her it was early and she would be home soon; her mom shouted, "IT'S MIDNIGHT" Somehow, these two uninterested souls had spent 14 hours together, never tired of one another, never wondering what time it was. Somehow, these two random "friends" spent a whole day with one another, shopping, eating, and conversing about their lives and dreams. David reminded Jeanette that it was an hour's drive back home, to which Jeanette said, "Well, I'm already in trouble; might as well make it worth it."
This day was the beginning of something magical because, from that day forth, the two would be inseparable, talking every day, texting, closing the restaurant together, and going for late-night pizza at Old Chicago after work. It was the beginning of something truly unique and perfect. They say love works in mysterious ways, and these two love birds represent "right time, right place."
Fast-forward eight years, and countless memories, trips, laughs, and late nights together have made these two an actual power couple. They constantly push one another, always cheer for the other, and always love each other. Now, you, the reader (hopefully a close family member or friend lol), have also witnessed their love in action and shared a magical day with them.
That is Our Story.
