Mike and I met when I was 10 years old at the start of 5th grade. Up until this point, everyone attended different elementary schools and didn't merge as one big class until middle school, or the "tuna can," as we all called it because it's in the shape of a tuna can.

Early on in 5th grade I started "dating" Cory Barth (groomsman) who was also Mike's best friend. Every day after school, Cory and I would talk on the phone while him and Mike hung out together and Mike would always say inappropriate things into the phone and they would both laugh hysterically. These are my first memories of my future husband.

Throughout middle school, junior high, and high school Mike and I became really close and had the same group of friends. He was at my birthday party when I turned 11, I was at his 6th grade birthday party that turned out to be A LOT more kids than Mrs. Kane told Mike he could invite. We were always seeing each other in and out of school. I remember people telling me that Mike and I should date because he was me in male form and I was him in female form and we were both really funny. It's true, Mike was always making me laugh and he once told me that I was pretty funny "for a girl" so I guess that's a compliment? Mike and I had a really good relationship and could talk about anything and there was never any awkwardness between us. There was also never any kind of romance. Sure, Mike flirted a lot but Mike flirted with everyone, which is why he was nominated class flirt when we graduated in 2006! Everyone loved Mike, especially the senior girls because he was such a soccer star. Of course, Mike didn't let this go to his head ;) In all seriousness, Mike was just the type of person you wanted to have in your life.

After high school, Mike stayed in the area and played soccer for East Stroudsburg University and I went 2 and a half hours away to Shippensburg University. We still kept in touch through facebook/texting and our tight knit group of friends would always hang out over breaks. Sometimes Shippensburg would have breaks at odd times and no one else would be home so I would just go to ESU and hang out with Mike and his friends. We never went more than a few months without catching each other up on what was happening in our lives. We would even give each other advice on relationships we were in. When I graduated college, my parents moved to North Carolina and I didn't really ever come back to Stroudsburg except for once or twice a year, if that.

Fast forward a couple of years and I was living in Norristown. Right around Halloween I was texting Mike that I was going to come back to Stroudsburg for the weekend and Mike said I could just stay with him. We had a really good time that weekend and I ended up coming back the following weekend and staying with him. After that second weekend and I had gone back home, I kind of missed him. I was thinking, what are these feelings I'm having for Mike Kane?!?! Long story short, he was feeling the same way and the rest is basically history.

After we actually became official (February 9th, 2013), everything became serious very quickly and moved quickly. I had never really dated anyone that I had been good friends with first. I think having that friendship ahead of time is HUGE. I also think that timing is everything!! I'm so blessed to have Mike as a partner for the rest of my life. He is my best friend and I can't imagine being without him. I cannot wait to be Jenny Kane and I cannot wait to celebrate with all of the people that have been there since day one. Cheers!
