Accommodation on Clare Island is hard to come by as most accommodation is in the form of rental houses. As a result, we have booked accommodation for most or all of our guests by reserving houses. By January 2024 we will provide the exact pricing for accommodation, which will be a flat rate of approximately $400-$500 total per room (TBD once we reasonably determine costs). This total will be inclusive of three nights (June 20-23) accommodation as well as ferry to and from Clare Island. Currently all rooms include en suite bath and most also include a separate twin bed in addition to a king or queen. As such, most families with small children will only need one room unless you request otherwise. Since we are the ones renting these houses, we will need a commitment for this price in early 2024, since it is non-cancellable to us. We will communicate with all guests individually to confirm accommodation. If you wish to book your own alternate accommodation, please inform us at your earliest convenience.
Clare Island is located off the west coast of Ireland and is reached by ferry. Ferry service is roughly 30 minutes or less from pier to pier and there are multiple ferries daily, with the last departing the island around 6 pm. The nearest large town is Westport, County Mayo. For practical purposes, Westport will be your destination on the mainland. The Roonagh ferry terminal is a roughly 20-minute drive from Westport.
The train to Westport departs directly from Dublin Heuston station. While there are other train stations in Dublin, you will transfer at Heuston for the Westport-bound train
Please note that while there is only one bus station in Westport, there are multiple pick-up points through Dublin.
Westport Taxi service: McGing's taxi is probably the best known taxi service in Westport. It's cash only and unmetered; from the train station it's roughly 5 euro per person to downtown Westport. If you are arriving by train, you should call McGing's in advance to arrange pick-up at the station.
