Our Story

It started when a friend of Jess told her to apply to Extera charter school. Jess took her friend's advice and soon started working there, which was the same school Alvaro worked at. They later learned it was Alvaro who recommended this school to Jess’ friend, so technically Alvaro is the reason Jess came to work at the same school.

After working together for a year, they started socializing in and outside of school. At school, Jess wanted Alvaro to eat lunch with her, but Alvaro needed some convincing to not eat in his classroom. It took Jess stealing his lunch box until he decided to each lunch with Jess. They started to eat lunch every day after that.

Their first date was during the Red Sox-Dodgers World Series. In fact, they stayed up wicked late talking during that super long game. It was then that they discovered their feelings towards one another. Their first official date was the night the Red Sox won the World Series, an exciting time for Jess.

They made the relationship official on November 13, 2018. Throughout the next few years, they went on many vacations together including a Spring Break trip through Oregon and Northern California. Yes, many wineries and tasting rooms were visited. They also visited Rhode Island and Maine many times seeing family and friends, including many boat trips on Rowe-Mer. Trevor, their dog, loved going on walks and runs with Alvaro, eventually getting up to two-mile runs together!

During the pandemic of 2020, wine and cheese tasting became a staple Saturday night for Jess and Alvaro. They would log into Zoom and enjoy 6 new wines and 4 new kinds of cheese from their favorite wine/cheese shops. This was a fun and relaxing activity during the stressful pandemic. Trevor loved these wine and cheese tasting too, always getting extra cheese from both of them.

On November 13, 2021, to Jess' surprise, Alvaro arranged a beach proposal on Manhattan Beach, California. The sun was setting, and Alvaro got down on one knee. After repeating the question a few times due to Jess being in shock, Jess enthusiastically agreed to marry Alvaro. Jess was surprised again when she saw Alvaro arranged to have Alvaro’s brother and mom and Jess’ parents waiting for them at the restaurant. And to top off an already perfect evening, Alvaro found a restaurant with multiple chardonnays for her to choose from and which offered New Bedford scallops, a favorite of Jess’. It was the perfect evening.

Jess and Alvaro are so excited to share their wedding with you and can’t wait to dance the night away while enjoying a delicious glass of wine! Trevor is equally excited to officially have Alvaro as his dad.
