Our Wedding

Jesse and Mary met at work, Binghamton University's library, in October 2018. Mary was visiting her work-mom in the basement when she was introduced to the new "server guy". They hung out a bit with the rest of the basement crew for a few weeks, and then all went bowling one Friday night in November. When everyone went home, Jesse and Mary wanted to keep hanging out (it was only 7pm on a Friday!), so they went to Garage for some dinner. They still weren't ready to call it a night, so they went to Irish Kevins for a nightcap. Jesse revealed that he fell asleep to The Office every night and Mary shared that she also fell asleep to the TV every night and had been watching a lot of Murder, She Wrote lately. Clearly a perfect match. A few nights later, Mary met Henry and Pip (Gordo was too shy to come up from the basement), and that sealed the deal. From there, they played video games together (the ones Mary could keep an attention span for), went bowling and out to eat (a lot), and Jesse taught Mary how to fish. In the years since, they've continued those hobbies, and Jesse proposed on Christmas Day 2022, knowing that Christmas is one of Mary's favorite days. Neither Jesse nor Mary love too much attention, so they decided to get married in a very small (and very short!) ceremony on November 2, 2023 at Confluence Park in Binghamton. They stood at the point of the park where the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers converge - cheesy but fitting, they thought - and were married by Jesse's childhood friend, Marco, who just happened to be ordained. Now, a year later, they are excited to celebrate with their family and friends on their one-year anniversary!

Located downtown, the DoubleTree is right across the street from the Welcome Party at Lost Dog. P.S. is a further walk (about 10 minutes) but still doable if you don't want to deal with driving/parking on a Saturday night. Deadline to book at this rate is October 1.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Binghamton

Binghamton has many other hotels to choose from if you're looking for lower rates, but DoubleTree is by far the most conveniently located for the weekend's events downtown. There are many chain hotels to choose from on Vestal Parkway and Upper Front Street (about 10-15 minutes away) if you don't mind driving or using cabs/Uber/Lyft. There is also a Holiday Inn downtown that is about the same distance from Lost Dog and P.S., and usually around the same price as DoubleTree if you'd prefer to stay with IHG.

Accommodations

DRIVING:Binghamton sits at the interchange of I-81, I-88, and I-86/Rt. 17, so it is pretty easy to get to, and, depending where you're coming from, you could have options. FLYING:Binghamton (BGM) does have an airport (BGM) but it is small, meaning it can be expensive, flight times can be inconvenient, and it will require a layover (unless you're coming from Detroit). If you're not seeing flights that work for you, I highly recommend flying into Syracuse (SYR) or Scranton (AVP) and renting a car. The drive is about an hour and just a straight shot up/down I-81.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:Unfortunately no trains run into Binghamton but we do have a bus station with Coach, Greyhound, and other lines. Do you have a registry?

We do not! We have been married for a year and already have just about everything we need, so please don't feel obligated to give a gift - especially if you already did last year! We would love if you would bring a card so we have something physical to look back on, but no pressure there either. We are just excited to spend the day with you!

What should I wear to the reception? (Really)

We are not super picky about what you'd like to wear to the reception. P.S. is a nice restaurant but definitely not stuffy, so if you're most comfortable in khakis and a polo, go for it. If you're like Mary and enjoy excuses to get dressed up, go ahead and put on that floor-length dress you've been saving for a nice occasion. What should I know about parking?

Downtown: Street parking is $1/hour between 8am-6pm Monday-Wednesday and 8am-8pm Thursday-Saturday, otherwise parking is free. Garage parking hours may differ but are still usually $1/hour. Binghamton University: Parking is free after 4pm Fridays until 7am Mondays, except for metered spaces and gated lots. How do I pay for street parking?

You can download the Flowbird app or find the nearest Flowbird kiosk. The app is great when you need to feed the meter but don't want to walk all the way back to the car. Everything is by license plate now, so you don't have to display a ticket on your dashboard. There is a small fee to use the app ($0.25 per transaction).

What is Binghamton known for?

Spiedies: Chunks of marinated chicken breast grilled and served on an Italian roll. Jesse's favorite is Spiedie &amp; Rib Pit; Mary... doesn't get the hype.Carousel Capital of the World: In the 1920s and 30s, local industrialist and philanthropist George F. Johnson donated five carousels to parks in the area with the only stipulation being that they stay free to ride forever. The carousels close in early September, but you can still peek in to see what they look like if you visit one of their locations.Rod Serling: The creator and host of the Twilight Zone grew up in Binghamton, and based an episode on the carousel in Recreation (Rec) Park -- "Walking Distance".
