Washington was planned as a simple trip for just the two of us. What looked like an ordinary getaway, however, was also the final chapter of a surprise that had been quietly prepared for a full year. Behind the scenes, Jesse had been planning a surprise proposal with Hayden’s best friend, Haesol. She had never visited the United States before, so bringing her from South Korea meant the world to Hayden.

On our way back to the car for what Hayden thought was a rental issue, Haesol suddenly appeared, surprising Hayden in the most unforgettable way. Soon after, we headed out to hike with Mount Rainier in view. Surrounded by the mountains and with Haesol beside us, Jesse proposed. What began as a simple Washington trip became one of the most meaningful days of our lives.
