The story of how Jessica and Houston met is a comedy, but it begins the same way that many of the great love stories do; with a simple, old-fashioned, blind date, set up by a mutual friend.&nbsp;However, getting to that point would prove to be anything but simple for this happy couple.It all started with a Friday night pizza night, a tradition at the Spear household that has been going on for over forty years.&nbsp;During one very special Friday night pizza night, the Spears were joined by Abby, Houston’s grandmother.&nbsp;Well, technically Houston’s cousin’s grandmother (this part is important later).Abby was always happy to catch up with her grandchildren during visits.&nbsp;On this particular evening, Abby asked Houston if he was dating anyone seriously.&nbsp;When he replied that he wasn’t, Abby lit up.&nbsp;She told him “I know the perfect girl for you!”&nbsp;Houston was surprised by this, as Abby had never before made any such statement.&nbsp;He agreed to meet this wonderful mystery woman as soon as Abby set things in motion.&nbsp;Abby told him “Let me talk with her and, if she is interested, I will give you her information so you both may meet.”Initially Jessica was not interested in a blind date, fortunately, Abby can be quite tenacious.&nbsp;After some additional convincing, Jessica agreed to let Abby give her contact information to Houston.&nbsp;The happy couple are not sure about the timeframe of these events but they are sure that it stretched into months.&nbsp;Each half of the pair wondering if the other had lost interest or had begun to see other people.When Houston did finally receive Jessica’s contact information from his cousin Jenny, so much time had passed that he was hesitant to reach out.&nbsp;For weeks, maybe longer but he would never admit it, he would admire her through her business Instagram profile.&nbsp;When his coworker David asked him one day “what are you looking at that has you grinning like that?” Houston showed him Jessica’s photo.&nbsp;It was at that moment that David informed Houston that he accidentally ‘liked’ the photo and that Jessica would receive a notification of this.Completely mortified by this occurrence, Houston hastened to draft his opening line to Jessica before she noticed the like on Instagram.&nbsp;It was clear that it had been a while since he asked someone out.&nbsp;“Hi Jessica, this is Houston.&nbsp;Your neighbor Abby is my cousin’s grandmother and she thinks that we should meet.”&nbsp;It had been so long since Jessica had even heard Houston’s name that nobody could blame her for her dry reply, “Hi Houston, this is my business account.&nbsp;But here is my cell phone number where you can reach me.”&nbsp;Houston was horrified, it appeared to him, that he had messaged a business account run by some intern.&nbsp;Thoughts filled his head of an office full of people teasing Jessica about this new random customer trying to flirt.Fortunately, after only a few hours of embarrassment, Jessica and Houston began to chat through text.&nbsp;The conversation flowed naturally and they agreed to meet!&nbsp;On December 20, 2021, a Monday, they met for the first time, on a blind date in the Shops at Pembroke.&nbsp;Houston never forgets the moment that he first saw Jessica, in a beautiful black dress, standing beneath a Christmas-themed nutcracker.&nbsp;The date was fantastic, but as soon as it ended, both Jessica and Houston began their respective Christmas vacations with their families.&nbsp;They kept in touch and looked forward to the next time when they could see each other back in town.&nbsp;The start of 2022 was a very special time for the pair as they began dating.&nbsp;The rest, as they say, is history.

H&J adventures

Born just seventeen months apart and only siblings, Matt and Houston developed their strong life-long bond early.  In their younger years they were inseparable and always found unique ways of entertaining themselves.  In one of their preferred childhood games, Houston would push a giggling Matt around in their Knight Rider toy pedal car until Houston collapsed from exhaustion and laughter.  We think this is where Matt discovered his need for speed.  They also loved to make massive pillow forts in their shared bedroom, between their matching bunkbeds, where they would play for hours.  Outside the house, they did the same in their wood fort playset, whose wooden slats eventually wore out and were converted to an Indiana Jones tree house and zipline.  That was irresistible to their neighborhood friends.  
As they grew older, Matt and Houston developed their own personalities and groups of school friends.  Though they were in different grades, or different schools from time to time, their bond remained strong, as they always have relished the times that they could be together.  This even included sharing housing and chores while at university.  As adults, their favorite extracurricular activities and interests include, among other things, motorcycles and cars, hiking, fishing and SCUBA diving.  They have had many adventures undertaking these sports, including diving wrecks and swimming with white tip reef sharks.  SCUBA diving remains something they still do together. 
After university, Houston returned to Fort Lauderdale and Matt moved to the Tampa area about 250 miles away, each pursuing his respective career.  Their bond, however, remains as strong as ever.  Family gatherings or weekend road trips to see one another are always highlights and are of paramount importance to each of them.  Matt can always count on his big brother to help him on projects late at night, Houston on Matt’s gourmet dinners, and both on their shared camaraderie.  
It, therefore, was no surprise to anyone, when Houston proposed to Jessica, that Matt would be his Best Man. >>> Con menos de dos años de diferencia, Matthew, el hermano de Houston es su mejor amigo. Danny is one of Jessica’s closest friends. They first met Freshman year of High School in French class and together they have built lots of great memories. When Danny met Houston, it was an instant seal of approval as they both share the love for cars and get along very well. Fun fact, Danny and Houston shopped the engagement ring together. Danny is the brother Jessica didn’t know she needed all this time >>>

Romi and Jess met about 10 years ago at the farm when Romina joined the State Farm crew. Throughout the years Romina has traveled the world and Jessica has lived vicariously through her adventures like an avid novel reader waiting for the next chapter to unveil. Their love for yoga have also allowed them to make lasting memories and their love for dogs encouraged Jessica to fund the pug museum Romina must have by now from all the items Jessy has gifted her over the years >>>


Romi y Jess se conocieron hace unos 10 años cuando Romina se unió al equipo de State Farm. ROMINA BERTETTI 

Diana has been one of Jessica's closest cousins. She has often played the role of an older sibling and has been a significant support in her life. Diana exemplifies the values shared by the bride's family and we couldn't think of this day without her special participation.

DIANA ALVAREZ

Yrving has been Houston’s best friend for over two decades.  They met as freshman in high school quickly becoming close friends, along with Yrving’s twin, Ybrim; Houston’s brother Matt; and others.  As they spent time together, Yrving and Houston learned they had more in common with each other than with the rest of their group.  
Yrving and Houston became best of friends and, throughout high school, they would spend their free time installing speakers in each other’s cars, taking their girlfriends out on double dates, and driving their teachers crazy with their antics.  After high school, they kept in touch.  Anytime the boys were in town for break between semesters at university, Yrving could always be found at the Spear house.   Outgoing and down for anything, Yrving brought a good time whenever he came by.
After university, Houston returned to Ft. Lauderdale.  Yrving welcomed him back to the scene and introduced him to new and interesting places in South Florida.  This was particularly easy for Yrving, since he worked in the radio entertainment industry at the time and was always taking a reluctant Houston to events.
Although Yrving’s life has included tremendous amounts of travel to other countries, sometimes for months or years, he always made time to keep in touch with and visit Houston.  A true embodiment of a brother from another mother, Yrving and Houston remain best of friends today. >>> Yrving ha sido el mejor amigo de Houston por mas de 20 años y juntos han vivido muchas etapas inolvidables. YRVING TOMASINI

About a decade ago, Nadia and Jessica met while working at the Janet Fernandez Agency State Farm. They both enjoyed going to concerts and formed a strong friendship while spending time together after work. Even though they now live in different states, their friendship has continued to grow over the years. Fun fact Jessica was actually visiting Nadia in Texas when Houston rescued Dale so technically she was the first to know they would become squirrel parents. >>>



Hace aproximadamente una década, Nadia y Jessica se conocieron mientras trabajaban en State Farm, la agencia Janet Fernández. Ambos disfrutaban ir a conciertos y formaron una fuerte amistad mientras pasaban tiempo juntos después del trabajo. Jenny is Houston's cousin. In fact, Jenny played a big part in bringing the Bride and Groom together. Her grandmother was Cupid, and Jenny was Cupid's messenger, delivering Jessica's information to Houston. Since they met, Jenny and Jessica have enjoyed family get-togethers and Friday night movie nights. They both enjoy yoga, animals, and traveling. We really wouldn’t be here without her >>>

Airport Information 

Your flight will be landing at Jose Maria Cordova International Airport approximately 33 minutes away from your hotel. On your way to your destination you will pass through The Túnel de Oriente is an 8.2-kilometre (5.1 mi) long toll road tunnel which connects the city of Medellín with the&nbsp;José María Córdova International Airport&nbsp;in Rionegro. If you booked shuttle transportation from the hotel, they will let you know which terminal is used for boarding. Otherwise, you can connect to the airport Wi-Fi and request Uber service to your destination.

1. Am I invited to the Welcome Breakfast? And what does dressy casual mean? Yes all are invited to the welcome breakfast! It is being held at Museo El Castillo. There will be buffet breakfast served. You will also get to tour the castle and take memorable photos with the bride and groom. It means that guests have the option of wearing their most formal attire (an evening gown or tuxedo) but may also choose to wear a formal suit or formal floor length dress instead. What will the weather be like this time of year? Weather is expected to be around 72 degrees in the day and 60's at night. If you're from the northeast, bring a light sweater. If you're from South Florida or Colombia, a warm jacket will do.   4. Where are the ceremony and the reception taking place? The wedding ceremony and reception are being held in two separate locations. The ceremony is at La Parroquia Nuestra Señora de las Lomas in Envigado and the reception is at Voila Wink Eventos next to Palau.   5. Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors? Both the ceremony and reception will be indoors. The only outdoor events will be the Welcome Breakfast and the cocktail hour.   6. What happens after the ceremony? After the ceremony, the shuttle will take you to the venue for the cocktail hour where Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served. Reception will include dinner and open bar.   7. Can I take and post pictures of the wedding on social media? Please refrain from taking any photos during the ceremony. The church has a strict no flash photography policy. After the ceremony, we encourage guests to post pictures on to their social media channels, our only request is that you tag each photo with one of our wedding hashtags #Losspear2024 so we can keep track of all of your pictures and make use of QR code provided!   8. Are there other wedding events I can attend? All are welcome at Friday's Welcome Breakfast!   9. What should I do if I can’t make it? You will be missed! If you cannot make it to the wedding, please let us know as soon as possible and RSVP “no,” so we can plan accordingly. You can also join the Live Stream to the ceremony.   10. How do I get to the venue? If you are staying at Novotel Medellin Hotel or York Suites, it is a 15 minute drive to the church. There will be a shuttle to take guests from Novotel Hotel. Shuttle times begin at 2PM and run every 15 mins. If you are staying at an Airbnb in El Poblado or Envigado area please plan ahead for the following travel time to both the church and venue. Travel time and route is listed below from each hotel to church to venue. Our venue is Voila but sometimes venue next door comes up on Google Maps as Palau Wink Eventos.   11. What time should I arrive? We recommend that you arrive 15-30 min before the start of the ceremony which starts promptly at 3:00PM. We want to make sure everyone is on time so we can get the party started as scheduled! If you're Cuban or run on Jessica's clock, please arrive 2 hours prior to the ceremony ;)   12. Where should guests park? Is parking free? Free parking is available both at the church and venue.    13. What safety precautions should I take? As any travel abroad safety precautions are always recommended. For transportation, Uber is the preferred method of transportation. Taxis are recommended to be ordered directly from the hotel, apartment building or cafes. They usually will order the yellow taxi for you and give you a code to confirm with the driver who arrives for pickup. Having your cellphone out in a mall is safe however always observe your surroundings.   14. Can I bring a date? Our wedding is strictly RSVP only. We will only able to accommodate those listed on your invitation.   15. Do you have a hotel block for guests? Where do you recommend I stay? Yes we do! See the Travel tab for more information.   16. When is the RSVP deadline? Do I need to mail back my RSVP or can I do it online? The deadline is September 1st. You can RSVP online or by text with our wedding planner.   17. Will there be any vegan/vegetarian/gluten free/special diet options? Only if you filled out the dietary restrictions question on the RSVP form or if previously confirmed with the bride/groom.   18. Will transportation be provided between to/from the hotel? There will be a shuttle only from the the preselected Hotels on the travel tab to bring guests to and from the ceremony/ venue. If you stay past the last shuttle, you can secure your transportation via uber to the ceremony and venue or back to the hotel after the party.   19. May I take a centerpiece/candle/flowers home as a souvenir? Please refrain from taking anything. We have a team to take down everything at the end of the party. You don't need another candle.   20. Yes we value our little ones and are glad to share this special day with them. However, please keep any children under your supervision at all times and inside ceremony and reception locations. Children are not allowed to play in parking area or any decks and must be with their parents during ceremony and first dance.   22. La ceremonia es en La Parroquia Nuestra Señora de las Lomas en Envigado y la recepción es en Voila Wink Eventos.   5. ¿La ceremonia y recepción será en el interior o al aire libre? Tanto la ceremonia como la recepción serán en el interior. Los únicos eventos al aire libre serán el Desayuno de Bienvenida y la hora del cóctel.   6. ¿Qué pasa después de la ceremonia? Después de la ceremonia, el servicio de transporte lo llevará al lugar para la hora del cóctel donde se servirán entremeses y bebidas. La recepción incluirá cena y barra libre.   7. ¿Puedo tomar y publicar fotografías de la boda en las redes sociales? Por favor absténgase de tomar fotografías durante la ceremonia. La iglesia tiene una política estricta de no tomar fotografías con flash. Después de la ceremonia, animamos a los invitados a publicar fotografías en sus canales de redes sociales. Nuestra única petición es que etiquete cada foto con uno de nuestros hashtags de boda #Losspear2024 para que podamos realizar un seguimiento de todas sus fotografías. Si no puede asistir a la boda, infórmenos lo antes posible y confirme su asistencia para que podamos planificar en consecuencia. También puedes unirte a la transmisión en vivo de la ceremonia.   10. ¿Cómo llego al recinto? Si te hospedas en el Hotel Novotel Medellín o York Suites, la iglesia está a 15 minutos en auto. Habrá un servicio de transporte para llevar a los huéspedes desde el Hotel Novotel. El horario del servicio de traslado comienza a las 2:00 p. m. y sale cada 15 minutos. Si se hospeda en un Airbnb en el área de El Poblado o Envigado, planifique con anticipación el siguiente tiempo de viaje tanto a la iglesia como al salon de recepcion.   11. ¿A qué hora debo llegar? Le recomendamos que llegue entre 15 y 30 minutos antes del inicio de la ceremonia, que comienza puntualmente a las 3:00 p.m. ¡Queremos asegurarnos de que todos lleguen a tiempo para que podamos comenzar la fiesta según lo programado! Si eres cubano o cuentas con el reloj de Jessica, llega 2 horas antes de la ceremonia ;)   12. ¿Dónde deben estacionar los huéspedes? ¿El aparcamiento es gratuito? Hay estacionamiento gratuito en al calle disponible en la iglesia y estacionamiento privado en la sede de recepcion.   13. ¿Qué precauciones de seguridad debo tomar? Como en cualquier viaje al extranjero, siempre se recomiendan precauciones de seguridad. Para el transporte, Uber es el método de transporte preferido. Se recomienda solicitar los taxis directamente en el hotel, edificio de apartamentos o cafeterías. Por lo general, solicitarán el taxi amarillo por usted y le darán un código para que lo confirme con el conductor que llegue a recogerlo. Tener su teléfono celular en un centro comercial es seguro, pero observe siempre su entorno.   14. ¿Puedo traer un acompañante? Nuestra boda es estrictamente solo para los invitados que confirmen su asistencia. Solo podremos aceptar a aquellos que figuran en su invitación.   15. ¿Tiene un bloque de hotel para huéspedes? ¿Dónde me recomiendas quedarme? ¡Sí! No se permite que los niños jueguen en el área de estacionamiento ni en ninguna terraza sin la supervisión de un adulto. About 2 hours away from your hotel, 650 stairs lead you through a narrow crack up the steep slope of the impressive La Piedra Del Penol, or ‘The Big Guatape Rock’. At the top of the Guatape rock, the view is quite simply breathtaking and has to be one of the most amazing lookouts in all of Colombia. At 2,135 meters above sea level, this rock is a natural wonder and the perfect spot to enjoy panoramic views of Guatape Lake and this beautiful region. Jessica recommends wearing comfy shoes and sunscreen for this hike, while Houston will tell you it's an exhilarating workout worth the view.

A quick 15 minute Uber can take you to El Museo El Castillo&nbsp;was built in 1930 in the El Poblado area. It is a gothic-style building that evokes the medieval castles of Europe. Today it is one of the most important cultural centers of the city. It offers extensive french gardens and various exhibitions of porcelain and stained glass art, as well as antiques, paintings and sculptures.&nbsp;

Inaugurated in the year 2000, this attraction is located in the open air in heart of the city,&nbsp;El Centro. The star attractions of Plaza Botero are the&nbsp;famous bronze statutes&nbsp;that adorn the surroundings of the&nbsp;Museo de Antioquia. This is the only place in the world where renowned Colombian sculpture’s&nbsp;Fernando Botero’s works are displayed outdoors.&nbsp;While the city is safe it is not recommended to take street taxis in this area, only Uber from App and stay aware of your surroundings when outdoors in plaza as there have been some pocket picketing occasions. The museum shop or cafe can also order a taxi for you and provide you the tag number for verification purposes.
