What happens if it rains on wedding day?
The chairlift is our only way to the venue, and we will take it rain or shine. If it's a passing storm that we can avoid by delaying - we will. Ponchos will be provided in the event of rain. If rain is in the forecast - it is not a terrible idea to pack a raincoat & umbrella. When it rains, the temperature drops quickly - please be prepared with layers. If necessary, we will do our ceremony and cocktail hour indoors.
What happens if it rains during your welcome party?
We will move inside.
What happens if it rains during the farewell lunch?
We will be there rain or shine. The pavilion is covered. Pack layers - storms are very cold here.
What's the best way to get to Summit County?
Two options:
(1) Peak 1 Express shuttle; ideal for single guests & those that don't want to drive. It takes an extra 1-2 hours depending on the timing of your flights - plan accordingly. We have a 15% discount at Peak 1; please check travel tab for link.
(2) Rent a car; optimal for couples or groups arriving around the same time and for freedom while here. If you're looking to explore a bit, this is the best option. We won't deny, driving on I-70 (the mountain highway) can be a bit intimidating, so get a car you are comfortable with and take your time.
Where should I stay?
Our hotel block at Hotel Indigo is great for walkability & ease; it is where shuttles will pick-up/drop-off and is the location of the late night after party. There are plenty of walkable coffee shops, breweries, & restaurants. If you'd prefer to coordinate with a larger group, there are many Airbnb's & VRBO's walkable to/from the hotel and in nearby neighborhoods. If you are choosing an Airbnb non-walkable to Hotel Indigo, please know that Ubers/Lyfts are unreliable in our small mountain town. Parking downtown Silverthorne & at the hotel are free. Whichever you choose, we're confident you'll love Summit!
Is there transportation to and from the venue?
You bet! It is only guaranteed to and from Hotel Indigo. If you are staying anywhere else around town, we will do our best to coordinate shuttle pick-up for you. If you choose to do a rental home 1) You must contact Jess & Dylan by June 1st if you want shuttle service 2) Shuttle service is only provided to and from venue; if you plan to attend the after party - getting home will be your responsibility.
Alternatively, public transportation (Summit Shuttle or Uber/Lyft) can get you to and from the hotel to join the guaranteed shuttles. Ride share apps can be unreliable, so please plan ahead. You can also drive to the hotel & park for free. Please note that your alcohol tolerance will be much lower in the mountains.
What's the weather like?
It's High Country, so no promises. A typical July day in Summit consists of temps between 65-80 degrees and nights between 50-60 degrees. The Venue is at 11,000 feet, so we strongly recommend bringing a jacket or shawl. The evening chair lift will be chilly; do not count on the "feel" of Silverthorne weather - the elevation makes a big difference. They'll provide rain ponchos if necessary. We take the chairlift rain or shine. It's an adventure!
What's with the elevation?
Silverthorne is at ~9,000 feet and the Venue is at ~11,000 feet (twice as high as Denver). While that offers the opportunity for incredible Alpine wilderness all around us - it does mean you will FEEL IT when you get up here. We recommend drinking plenty of water leading up to your time up here, and being careful with how much alcohol you consume.
Are kids invited?
While we love the little ones, we kindly ask they stay home on wedding day. If you want to travel with your little tykes and are looking for babysitters while you are here: let us know and we can help find someone local. The weekend is otherwise kid-friendly & our town is very acommodating.
What should I wear?
The golden rule in the mountains is to always bring a jacket. Weather is very unpredictable and can fluctuate substantially in a short amount of time. We recommend pants/longer dresses for the evenings.
[ Welcome party ] Upscale casual. Feel free to go as mountain-y as you'd like! Ladies, no skinny heels.
[ Wedding day ] Semi-formal attire. For the women we recommend a thicker & comfortable heel; you may appreciate a longer hem on the chairlift ride down to keep you warmer. Bring a jacket :).
[ Casual Farewell ] Anything you want! Be comfortable.
Anything else I should know?
We really can't emphasize the elevation enough. Please drink a ton of water during wedding week & weekend, and know that your alcohol tolerance will be significantly lower. Pack a water bottle to bring everywhere. Advil, electrolyte supplements, and oxygen canisters can be helpful. Additionally, the sun is intense this high up -- wear your SPF! It's also quite dry, so pack lotion & chap stick.
