Asher and Jill met in the fall of 2021, at GVSU through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship's STEM Bible Study. When they first met, Jill thought Asher hated her. He had gone through a very difficult semester, and was emotionally and physically drained, and honestly did not even really know that Jill existed. However, the following semester Asher finally seemed like a living human being, and they actually had a conversation. From there, it was a mixture of Jill questioning if Asher was interested in her, if she should visit his church, if he was interested, and trying to determine if she was interested in him. After finally deciding that she could possibly be interested in him, the semester ended and Jill went home for the summer. They did not speak to each other again until the fall of 2022.

Asher and Jill saw each other one time until Asher texted Jill to ask her out. Since Asher has a flip phone, when he texted Jill, he did not use her name, so Jill spent 24 hours questioning if he sent the text to the right person. Eventually, they did finally go out on a date. Jill's roommate's got to witness the awkwardness of Asher dropping Jill off at the end of their first date - through the blinds :) However, they began dating during Asher's worst academic semester, in which he was mostly dead. We'll skip over the fact that Jill spent a long time questioning if they were, in fact, dating. They enjoyed approximately one semester of dating in which both parties were fully alive, as Jill faced a grueling summer job, followed by a difficult fall semester. Despite these difficulties, Asher waited for the first snow, and on October 31, 2023 he popped the question.
