Katie and Jill met during freshmen welcome week at GVSU, and did not talk to each other again until the end of their freshmen year. At the end of their freshman year, they became fast friends and began to see each other almost every day. Jill and Katie enjoy movie nights at Jill's house, deep theological conversations, coffee, and talking about how awesome their fiancés are. And Asher enjoys correcting Katie's possibly heretical comments in Bible study :) The two of them have begun a beautiful rivalry, much to Jill's amusement.
Madi Rosebrock - Maid of Honor
Madi and Jill met in middle school, but they did not become friends until Jill's freshman year of high school. They became fast friends and played three sports together throughout all of high school. Madi and Jill enjoy playing sports together, but also they enjoy late night conversations, especially theological discussions. Madi enjoys attempting to one-up Asher on any given occasion, but considering Jill is marrying Asher, she is not doing so hot. Asher never misses an opportunity to remind Madi of this fact.
Samantha Floyd - Bridesmaid
Jill and Samantha met as infants, and have been friends ever since. They were trouble-makers as children, and nothing changed in their early adulthood. Sam and Jill continue to show off their expert level poor decision making skills by trying new and strange or dangerous things every time a responsible human is not present. While Sam and Asher have only met a few times, Sam knows way more about Asher than either of them would care to admit.
Bethany Donihue - Bridesmaid
Bethany and Jill have known each other their entire lives. Ever since childhood, they have been good friends, and enjoy a nice walk or a deep theological conversation at all hours of the day or night. Both enjoy playing games together, despite the fact that Jill never wins :) Asher and Bethany have only met a few times, they enjoyed discussing Narnia together (and both can take credit for convincing Jill to read the series) and playing very competitive strategy games.
Sky Ely - Bridesmaid
Sky is Jill's older sister, and despite the four year age gap, they are often mistook for one another. They enjoy having some of the most meaningless but entertaining conversations, such as the five most embarrassing ways to die, and relentlessly harassing their brother, Grant. Asher and Sky have final moved from a "hand-shake only" basis to an awkward side hug. Truly a blossoming friendship.
Jalyn Girardot - Bridesmaid
Jalyn is Jill's oldest sister. They have enjoyed many interesting phone conversations and over the past year began writing letters to each other, as well. Both of them enjoy playing games together, and they both like teasing Jay's husband, Ryan. Jay and Ryan have only been able to have a few interactions with Asher, but they have all enjoyed completely crushing Jill at any game they play.
Steven St. John - Best Man
Steven and Asher have known each other since their early childhood years, and have run in similar circles for many years. They attended the same school from middle school to college, and were both on the Cross Country team and in Solid Ground youth group throughout High School. Steven was a pivotal figure in setting up Asher as the unofficial team mascot for Cross Country, which he accomplished by leading the team in chanting Asher's name before a JV women's meet in their freshman year. As partial compensation for this, Asher in turn leveraged Steven's charisma by bringing up suggestions for the team in a low voice that only Steven could hear. If Steven thought it was a good idea he could bring it up to all those present, and they would listen. If not, Asher was saved from looking a fool.
Christian VandeGuchte - Groomsman
Christian and Asher met in Boys club in elementary school when Christian poked Asher with a thumbtack. They became friends in middle school during a youth group hike, and grew closer in Cross Country and Track events, as well as Solid Ground during high school. At first glance, everyone is surprised that Christian and Asher are friends. Christian is more prone to be the life of the party, and Asher is more prone to be mistaken for a business executive or supervillain. Once you see them interact, however, it starts to make sense. They talk together about how to use spaghetti to measure surface area or the best methods of procuring a goat on short notice. They also share a fanatic love of climbing anything and everything, and once dressed as each other for Halloween.
Christian Winter - Groomsman
Christian-- Asher's brother in law-- and Asher met when Asher was in middle school, and Christian was meeting Julia's family. They bonded over strategy games-- especially chess. Asher won once. Don't ask how many times they played. A win is a win. After stealing points off of Asher in Cribbage, Christian once remarked "This is why bridges collapse." They also both love spending time outdoors, and have done some camping together in the Upper Peninsula.
Ethan Butterbaugh - Groomsman
Ethan and Asher met their freshman year of college at a CRU meeting, and later ran into each other at Grace Community Church. They enjoy talking together about Christianity and spiritual matters, as well as simply catching up. On occasion, they meet over a meal to catch up and talk.
Clayton Wenzel - Groomsman
Clayton and Asher met through STEM small group in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. They became somewhat of a forced friendship, due to their significant others, Jill and Katie, becoming best friends. The men had to learn how to survive the escapades of their women, and most-likely ended up trauma bonding. They did co-lead a Bible study together with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, where the two gentlemen met. Clayton and Asher worked well together while planting a Bible study on GVSU's Downtown Campus, and plan to continue to co-lead that small group together in the fall.
Brandon Chase - Groomsman
Brandon and Asher met at Gentex, where Brandon works and Asher co-ops. They bonded over playing games during lunch, such as Star Realms, Knights and Dragons, and Skull King, and worked together to corrupt other coworkers by making them play games, too. They must work some time too, but nobody is really sure when. They also spend time playing games outside of work on occasion, although regrettably they aren't paid for that.
