This is our favorite Chicago tourist activity. The Architecture Foundation offers boat tours that take you up and down the Chicago river as they explain all of the city's iconic skyscrapers. There's a bar on the boat too, if you wanna party it up. ;)
Sports fans can take a guided tour of Wrigley Field, which is one of the most iconic stadiums in the US. The tour is cheap ($25), short (only about 90 mins), and easily accessible via public transportation. Not to mention it's swamped with bars and restaurants nearby. Sadly, no games are currently scheduled for our wedding weekend (postseason at that point).
The CTA train, affectionately known as the "El", also happens to be one of the cheapest, easiest, and most picturesque ways to see the city. Take the Red Line from the hotel to Belmont, where you can board the Brown Line train, headed towards the Loop. You'll get great pictures out the window the whole way around the tracks, as the train zips you around the loop and returns you back to Belmont (you can go a little further to Southport to find some great bars and restaurants, as well as see just how close the train gets to the buildings.) This is a very affordable option as well. $2.25 each way.
Without question, one of the greatest art museums in the world, if not one of the best overall museums in the world. Don't try to see it all (you'll miss the wedding!) but for sure do the museum highlights tour, and don't miss the best collection of Impressionist art you'll ever see. Great (and well-priced) food and drink here as well.
No visit to Chicago is complete without seeing the Bean! Check it out here, amongst so many more absolutely stunning pieces of sculpture, and if you're lucky, some free world-class music at the Pritzker Pavilion!
Chicago's 5th Avenue, the Mag Mile is loaded with amazing shopping from retailers all around the world, from the Gap to Uni-Qlo to Burberry. You can also swing by the iconic Wrigley Building and wave to all of Jim's co-workers.
The zoo is nestled away in the center of Lincoln Park and is 100% free to attend. Go see the penguins and say we said hi!
