His Perspective: I first laid eyes on Jiniah when I was fifteen, and I’ve never forgotten that moment. It was ninth grade, and I was sitting in the bleachers at a varsity basketball game when everything else seemed to fade. Someone caught my eye. It was a cheerleader from Whitefield, and somehow, without ever speaking, she had all my attention. I don’t remember much about the game that night, but I remember her clearly. It felt like more than coincidence, like God was quietly nudging me toward someone important.
Months later, thanks to Facebook, we finally met. From the very beginning, it felt effortless. We talked constantly, spending long summer days Skyping for hours while Jiniah lived in Tennessee. What started as a crush quickly became a deep friendship. Yes, she was beautiful, but she was also intelligent, genuine, and easy to talk to. It felt like I had known her my whole life, and I knew then I never wanted her to leave mine.
Life pulled us in different directions for a while, but God wasn’t done with our story. On September 9, 2012, at a college fair of all places, I looked up and saw Jiniah standing right in front of me. My heart froze, then raced. After all that time, seeing her again made it clear our story wasn’t finished yet.
Our journey has taught me that when something, or someone, is truly meant for you, no time, distance, or circumstance can stand in the way. Jiniah is my greatest blessing, my best friend, and the person I get to spend the rest of my life with. To the girl who made me believe in love at first sight, my heart is forever yours. I love you infinitely.
