Our Story

Joani & Léo's Love Story

It all began in 2010, when two high school sweethearts found each other and fell in love. Life took us in different directions for a while — Léo moved back to France to continue his studies while I stayed in Ottawa, and with that came a brief pause in our story.

But the universe had other plans.

In 2021, fate brought us back together, and it felt like our hearts picked up right where they left off. Our first date was on October 5th, 2021, and just a few weeks later, on October 20th, we knew it was time to make it official. By June 2022, Léo brought me to France to meet his extended family, and just a couple of months later, in August, we took a big step and moved in together.

Then, on October 5th, 2024, Léo asked me to marry him… and of course, I said yes!

Now, we’re writing the next chapter of our love story — one filled with laughter, adventure, and a lifetime of love.

Joani and Léo’s first official date after reuniting was nothing short of special. Fresh off a night shift, Joani was greeted by Léo with a Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand. They spent the day hiking through the beautiful trails of Gatineau Park, followed by a cozy dinner at Homestead Pub. It was simple, thoughtful, and the perfect way to start their next chapter together.

It was an unforgettable adventure, and of course, no trip to Paris would be complete without a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower. It was a dream come true and the perfect start to their journey exploring the world together.

On that same trip, they also made a stop in Spain to visit Sarah, who was living there at the time. It was the perfect opportunity to blend adventure with friendship, creating even more cherished memories as they explored Spain together before continuing their European journey.

They ended their trip in Montpellier, France — Léo’s hometown, where Joani had the chance to meet his grandparents for the first time. It was a special moment, and Joani’s French was certainly put to the test! Despite the language barrier, they had an absolute blast and got along wonderfully.

It was his chance to dive right into Joani’s world, and he fit in perfectly, embracing the fun and chaos that makes the party so special. To top it off, he even took the stage for a karaoke solo to Mud on the Tires—he definitely won over the crowd! It didn’t take long for him to feel like part of the crew.

They kicked off their holiday adventure by seeing the Rockettes perform, and of course, they couldn’t miss the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. It was the perfect way to celebrate the season together!
