Our Story

After finishing undergrad in 2015, we decided to spend a year in Israel teaching English in Rishon LeZion through a Masa program. Either by fate or because our program coordinator thought we would be a good fit, we were placed to live in the same apartment for a year. We quickly bonded and became close friends after waking up at 3 am to watch the Michigan-Maryland football game. After an impromptu trip to Prague over Chanukah, we realized our connection was more than just a friendship.

We were inseparable for the rest of the year looking for every excuse possible to travel, explore, and eat hummus together. Our program ended and we weren’t quite sure where we stood; Jonah was moving back to Chicago while Becca was making a short stop in the States before moving to Denmark for a year. After a year of being inseparable, we weren’t sure what would happen when we were suddenly completely separated. Despite the time difference, daily facetimes kept us close and we knew that a year apart was longer than we ever wanted to be away from each other again.

After Denmark, Becca moved to Chicago where we’ve lived ever since. We moved in together in 2018, adopted the cutest dog ever in 2020, and later that year took a road trip to New Hampshire for a month. There, Jonah wanted to surprise Becca with his Grandma’s engagement ring at the top of a mountain after a hike. His main hints were that he wanted it to be a “fancy hike” up the mountain to take good pictures at the top. Becca repeatedly stressed she had no interest in a fancy hike on a 90 degree summer day. At the top of Mount Major with the perfect view and Kaya in hand, Jonah proposed and Becca said yes.

After two years of thinking about our wedding and almost two years of putting off planning our wedding, we are incredibly ready to celebrate our relationship in a Jewish ceremony on July 31st at Cafe Brauer with friends and family.
