It was June 2010. Angie caved to the pressure of social media and joined Facebook. Already savvy to the ways of the internet, Jonathan came upon Angie's profile and saw an opportunity to make a new friend. Angie not understanding that you could reject people's friend requests ignorantly accepted. This turn of events lead to a few Facebook messages, which lead to a few dates, which lead to years of companionship comprised of many adventures, lots of laughing, and a love that continued to grow.
Whether traveling across country or around the globe, Jonathan learned over time from Angie how to go with the flow and enjoy the moment. Their proposal is a perfect culmination of these lessons learned.
Jonathan had known for some time that Angie was the one. He had the ring. He had asked her father. He knew when he wanted to ask. However, one question remained...how? As the date neared, Jonathan had come up with a few great ideas. One idea involved a walk through a snow covered park ending at a beautiful back drop. In another, both were dressed to impress while taking a few selfies as a photographer discretely captured the moment. And there was even one that involved Craigslist! Alas, similar to their many adventures, not everything went as planned.
It was New Year's Eve and a night filled with good food and friends was in the works. None of the preconceived ideas had the required framework for success so Jonathan decided to wing it. Angie suggested a walk which led the two to an outcropping overlooking the Iowa River. He had been carrying the ring, waiting for the right moment, and as the two of them stood looking out over the icy river, Jonathan began to worry he might not get his chance. It was at that point that Angie said something they both will never forget, "I would be pissed if you threw me in that water right now..."
Now, most people would be confused by this statement, but it fit perfectly. As they both laughed about the absurdity of such actions, Jonathan proceeded to get down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked, "Would you be pissed if I did this?" Completely surprised, Angie of course said, "Yes!"(Yes that she would marry him. Not that she was pissed.)
