Our Wedding

We travelled to Marrakesh for a holiday, and while I had a feeling he was going to ask me, I thought it would be on the last evening when our friends who’d travelled with us had gone home. Our trip didn’t start smoothly, though. We flew out on a Monday, and things took a bit of a turn when we dropped our car off for long-term parking and realized our road tax wasn’t up to date, leading to a hefty fee for towing. Not the best start, right? But all of that melted away when we arrived at our stunning Riad in Marrakesh.The day had been long, and after dinner, I was ready to call it a night. But then Benhard called me upstairs, which was strange because our room was downstairs. As I made my way up, I noticed rose petals and lit candles leading the way. In that moment, my first thought was, “I’m in my pajamas — should I go change?” But I kept going, and as I reached the top of the stairs, it was one of the most special moments of my life. I can barely remember if I even said yes, but I will never forget the look on his face or the beauty of that moment. The ring was perfect, and celebrating it with close friends made it even more magical. It was truly the best way to start a trip — I’ll always treasure it.

My sister is my best friend in the world—the kind of person who knows what I’m thinking before I say a word, and who can make me laugh until I cry with just a look. We’re polar opposites in almost every way but somehow that’s always made us fit perfectly. She’s the free-spirited, artsy one who can make magic out of chaos, while I’m the uptight type-A, athletic planner who color-codes her calendar for fun. She dreams in watercolors (mostly black), I dream in bullet points. We share about a million inside jokes, most of which make absolutely no sense to anyone else. She knows every version of me, the good and the bad, and loves me just the same. She’s the one I call first, the one who shows up no matter what, and the one who will absolutely make a speech at this wedding that will have me both crying and hiding under the table. I couldn’t imagine this day without her.

Wilri is someone who has been in my life quite literally since the very beginning. She’s more than a family friend—she is family. From being the adorable flower girl at my mom’s wedding to now standing by my side at mine, she’s been part of every chapter. She is one of the kindest, most loyal people I know—the kind who would quite literally give you the clothes off her back without a second thought. I can talk to her about anything, whether it’s something joyful or something heavy, and she’s always been there with open arms and an open heart. Her steady presence, her selflessness, and her unwavering friendship mean the world to me, and I’m so grateful to have her walking this journey with me.

I met Tonia in 2021, but from the moment we connected, it felt like I had known her forever. She quickly became one of those rare, soul-deep friendships—the kind you know will last a lifetime. She is, without a doubt, one of the kindest and most pure-hearted people I’ve ever met. Her warmth, compassion, and quiet strength have made such a profound impact on my life, and I truly feel so lucky to have her by my side. She has a way of making everyone around her feel seen, safe, and completely loved, and having her as part of this day means the world to me.

We only met three years ago, but it feels like we’ve lived a whole lifetime of friendship since then. She quickly became one of my ride-or-dies—the kind of friend who’s equally up for a sunrise yoga and meditation session or dancing until 3am. She’s incredibly loyal and somehow always knows exactly what to say (and do) in any situation. Whether I need tough love, heartfelt advice, or just someone to laugh with, she’s always there. She’s kind, honest, loving, and so much fun to be around—and I know without a doubt that she’ll be in my life for many, many years to come. She and her family have become a true home away from home for me and my fiancé, and having her by my side on this day means more than I can say.

They say you can’t choose your family—but luckily, I hit the jackpot with mine. I may not have had a say in the matter, but I’m genuinely so happy I got stuck with her! From the moment we met, she welcomed me with open arms, and over the years we've been through so much together—laughing until we cry, crying until we laugh, and collecting memories I’ll treasure forever. She’s been a constant through all the ups and downs, and I’m so grateful to have her not just as a bridesmaid, but as my soon-to-be sister. I couldn’t imagine this day without her by my side.

Zanré Janse van Rensburg

This bridesmaid and I have come a long way—and what a journey it’s been! From braving the miserable UK weather together to her surviving the chaos of living under one roof with my fiancé and two other boys (honestly, I still don’t know how she made it out alive), she’s been by my side through it all. She’s the kind of friend who brings warmth, laughter, and unwavering loyalty wherever she goes—not to mention a strong love for tequila. Her sense of humour, resilience, and heart of gold have meant the world to me over the years, and I’m so grateful to have her standing beside me as I start this next chapter. This wedding wouldn’t be complete without her.

My partner in sweat and soul sister -  a friend who became family. We first met while training together in London, and what started as shared track sessions quickly grew into something so much deeper.  We’ve pushed each other through brutal sessions, swapped endless life updates, and somehow always found time to talk for hours (usually when we should’ve been stretching). She's kind, fiercely loyal, and has the most beautiful heart. Whether we're on the track or just hanging out, life is better with her in it. There's a chance she might not be able to make it to the wedding because she'll be deep in competition season, chasing her dream of qualifying for the World Championships — and I couldn’t be prouder. I’ll miss her soooo much if she can’t be there, but I’ll be cheering her on every step of the way, just like she’s always done for me.

Franschhoek and the surrounding Winelands are best explored by car, so we recommend that guests consider renting a vehicle from any major car rental agency upon arrival in Cape Town. Alternatively, Uber is widely available and reliable for getting around the area. Just a heads-up: South African drivers have a... creative interpretation of road rules, so buckle up, keep your wits about you, and maybe say a little prayer at roundabouts! On the night of the wedding, we’ll also be arranging a shuttle service to ensure everyone gets home safely—more details on that will follow but hoping to accommodate as many as of our guests as possible

Travel

Take a cable car to the top of this iconic flat-topped mountain for panoramic views of the city, ocean, and surrounding mountains. For the adventurous, there are also hiking trails!

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway

This bustling harbor area is perfect for shopping, dining, boat rides, and people-watching. There's also the Two Oceans Aquarium and ferries to Robben Island.

V&A Waterfront

Take a ferry from the V&amp;A Waterfront to visit the historic island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Tours are guided by former political prisoners—powerful and unforgettable.

Robben Island Museum

See the famous colony of African penguins up close! A beautiful beach perfect for a half-day trip, and the penguins are always a hit.

Boulders Beach

Take a day trip to the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula. The drive is stunning, and the views from the lighthouse are worth the climb.
