Kiara and Josh met in 2019 while both working as Resident Advisors at the University of Washington. They became fast friends once Kiara found out how funny Josh was. Once Josh was brave enough to ask Kiara out on a first date, they went on a ferry ride to West Seattle where they took this picture! Josh then treated the two of them to a delicious bowl of clam chowder at Ivar's.
Because of social distancing requirements, Kiara had to move back to Hawai'i in the Spring of 2020. This would mark the first of several long stretches, where these two star-crossed lovers would have to be separated by over 3,000 miles. They filled the time with phone calls, virtual movie nights, Stardew Valley, and frequent trips to see each other. In total it is estimated they spent 575 days apart.
Josh then took Kiara to the Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Gardens where they drove up to the very top and had a picnic. Then they moseyed on over to a TOTALLY random spot with a picturesque view of the mountains away from the garden crowds. There, Josh fumbled with the camera for a suspiciously long time while Kiara had her back turned. Then when he finally got the ring out, he asked Kiara to marry him. Fortunately for all of you, she said yes and now you get to visit Hawai'i!
