Josh and Kyla’s story is one of faithfulness, grace, some up’s and down’s, but a whole lot of love. They met at Heritage, starting college in the same freshman class. Josh had originally taken notice of Kyla by doing some Instagram stalking before the year began, but due to circumstances was not able to act on this “love at first sight.”

By God’s providence (and credit to Chuck Schoenmaker), Josh and Kyla ended up in the same small group in their first year formation course. This was a meaningful time of getting to know each other and serving alongside each other. Josh was the group leader, but quickly learned that Kyla was going to be real boss, even if she didn’t have the title.

At the beginning of their second year at Heritage, Kyla asked Josh who he thought he would be close with this year. Josh, sheepishly, responded with “Hopefully you!” Neither knew where that was going to lead. In February 2022, Josh asked Kyla out on a date. The plan was to see “Uncharted” in theatres, however, Josh accidentally purchased the tickets for the wrong day, and instead they were left to watch “Marry Me” on their first date. How fitting!

From that point on, Josh and Kyla’s relationship progressed, grew and strengthened over the following months. They enjoyed a summer of walking by the river, eating Pad Thai and sitting on the front porch enjoying each others company. However, Josh and Kyla are also thankful for the way that God used trials in their lives to shape them more into the image of Christ.

As the months have gone on, Josh and Kyla added bubble tea, thrift shopping and dreaming about life and ministry together to the list of favourite things. As they dreamt about the future, they knew two things to be true: They wanted to glorify God whatever road he was leading them, and they wanted to walk that road together.

So, on October 27, 2023, Kyla’s 21st birthday, Josh designed a special day of recalling memories, celebrating blessings, and then brought Kyla out to Rattlesnake Point for a hike through the woods. Little did she know (to be honest, she totally knew!), that Josh was going to pop the question on the edge of a cliff and ask Kyla to be “the greatest gift, even though it was her birthday!” How sweet, and awfully corny! Kyla enthusiastically said yes to sharing life and love together, forever; and the rest is history. Truly these two, are better together… forever!
