A three hour (3hr) drive from Boat Harbour along the Northern coast, back through Launceston and the Tamar Valley Wine Region, lies one of the best golf courses in Australia.

The Nut Chair Lift

Browns Rd, Stanley TAS 7331, Australia
(03) 6458 1482

Stanley is a 35min drive further North west to Boat Harbour.

The Nut is a sheer-sided, flat-topped volcanic plug that towers 143m over the historic fishing town of Stanley on the north-west coast.

Limber up for the steep climb – it should take about 20min – or take the easy way up on the chairlift. Once there, take a spin around the summit track. In summer, keep an eye out for short-tailed shearwaters returning to their burrows at dusk.

Also at dusk, see little penguins march up the beach to their burrows from the viewing platform at Godfreys Beach. Stay quiet and be patient.

Walks and Hiking

Picture of Walks and Hiking

There are literally hundreds of walks within an hour or two drive from Boat Harbour, if you are into hiking. Here are some of the tracks that we have tried but the parks website (below) has a great website for finding walks. You'll need a parks pass for most things fun in Tasmania (but they are very reasonably priced) which you can buy here: https://passes.parks.tas.gov.au/

Cradle Mountain: 135km (1hr 55min) from the venue.

Day walks and the famous multi-day Overland Track (bookings required) from here, accommodation available near the visitor centre.

Walls of Jerusalem: 160km (2hrs 30min) from the venue.

Overnight hiking with the "best of" version able to be done as an overnighter, medium version 2 nights and the whole loop 3 nights.

Mount Roland: 118km (1hr 40min) from venue on the way to Cradle Mountain. Day walk with a couple of options including the regular track (gentle incline) and the face track (like being put through the wringer).
