Part one of our cousin trio! Shannon was the one I could always count on to get excited about my insane ideas 100% of the time (i.e., spending hours decorating a cake we never let anyone eat since it was too pretty). She also was my confirmation sponsor, chosen specifically so that we could use it as an excuse for her to come visit!

Kathryn was my randomly-assigned Notre Dame roommate during our time studying abroad in London who turned into my best friend! We spent probably 12 hours a day together for 2 years straight, and probably still would if we lived in the same state now.

Zosia was the very intimidating (aka tall) athlete I met freshman year when she was swimming circles around me far too early in the morning. I very quickly learned she was at least as dorky as I am and twice as fun. Now she’s the best pediatric cardiologist out there!

Jack and I met when he came over to the dorm room freshmen year to say hi to my roommate, Will. He's both the goofiest and hardest-working person I know. We have the same kind of delight in craziness, and to this day he's the most likely person to randomly send me something that will make me laugh out-loud. He always challenges me to grow and improve with a devilish smile on his face.

Amanda started and ran a college org that I was dragged to, where I learned that she was super funny, kind, and determined to make a difference in the world. As a very engaged listener and enthusiastic story-teller, she's one of the most fun conversationalists there is, and her laughter often fuels our antics. She's now killing it as a college professor!

Will was my randomly assigned roommate freshmen year of college. We proceeded to live together until graduation, staying up late with Jack, discussing the ins and outs of the universe. He evolved my music taste, influenced my love of horror, introduced me to beer varieties, and catalyzed my love of rock-climbing; for better (or worse) he's become my taste-maker. He is now an incredible and creative teacher at a gifted school.

Brynn I met in engineering class, and then a year later we realized that we were both funny and competent in the same way. We helped each-other pass our classes, went on many hikes, and laughed our way through the rest of the curriculum. She's one of the most reliable people there is. We even went on to work at the same company (after she found it for us lol) and still share the same industry.

William grew up on a ranch a few miles from where I grew up on a ranch. We became friends in middle school, where we formed our sense of humor and obsession with comedy, fostered our love of video games, and grew up on game chat. He showed me that science is cool by getting me into Physics in high school, which fully flipped my life trajectory. Of course, he now has a PhD in Chemistry and is researching battery recycling methodologies. 

William Grumbles

Athey was the only person in elementary school that was taller than me, so we had to become friends. He's an extremely positive guy, always interested in what you've got going on; to this day he's one of the kindest people I know. We share a nostalgia for the CRT era of media, and his VHS collection is impressive. He's moved to Wisconsin of all things, and has been collecting and fixing old cameras in his spare time.

Travel: Santa Barbara is Julia's favorite airport to fly in/out of! It's a beautiful little airport (renovated specifically for Oprah) that is quick and easy to navigate and is about a 15 minute drive from the heart of Santa Barbara where all of the wedding events will take place. There are direct flights from Denver and Chicago (and many other places). Another easy travel option is to fly in to LAX and either rent a car for the ~2 hour drive or take the Santa Barbara Air Bus directly from the airport. There are many buses daily that drop off on State Street.

Lodging: We have a hotel block at Motel 6 Santa Barbara, which is newly renovated and right across the street from the beach. However, there are lots of other great places to stay in Santa Barbara that are close to the venues and the beach! There also are lots of great Airbnbs in Santa Barbara and neighboring towns of Goleta or Montecito.

This property is a 2-minute walk from the reception venue (Cabrillo Pavilion) and the beach and was recently remodeled. It is simple, clean, well-priced and ideally located. Limited rooms available.
