In the summer of 2013, while Julia was waiting tables at the Hammel House in Waynesville, Ohio, a lovely couple asked her what her plans were for college. She told them she was attending the University of Toledo and was majoring in pharmacy. They let her know that their family friend was also going to Toledo and majoring in pharmacy. They told her his name and to keep an eye out for him (of note: she did not remember his name nor did she ever plan to keep an eye out for him). The family friend turned out to be Alec, and the couple went to his graduation party and wrote “Remember Trapp” on one of his gifts!
Throughout their time at the University of Toledo, Julia and Alec lived in the same dorm, shared almost all of their classes, worked at Meijer pharmacy together, and maintained a great friendship. In the summer of 2018, when they both were back at home for summer internships, they decided to go out for drinks and catch up. It went so well that Julia (after a few beers) texted her friend from the bathroom “I think I might love Alec Hambly lol.” They continued to see each other for the next few months, until on New Year’s Eve of that year, they decided to make things official!
Over the next four years, Julia and Alec navigated dating long distance, starting new jobs, moving back home, and buying a house! They discovered their joint love for brewery hopping, vacationed in Florida and North Carolina, and even went to 13 different weddings in 2022!
November 24, 2022, on Thanksgiving, Alec proposed to Julia in downtown Waynesville, right across the street from the place where it all started, the Hammel House!
After saying the easiest YES of her life, they got down to planning, and cannot wait to celebrate with everyone in August!
