The Beginning

Like so many 21st century love stories, ours began online. We met on Hinge. After a grueling month of interrogation, Mike finally revealed his true name to Julie-- Cookie having been his chosen moniker on the site. That, seemingly, was all it took. 
Our first date was on February 24th, 2019 at The Castle: A Board Game Cafe in Beverly. We listened to an awkward first date that made us feel better about ours and, despite all of her experience, Julie was soundly defeated by Mike at her favorite game (coincidentally named Castles). Needless to say, she was smitten.

The Middle

Once the baby pet introductions went smoothly, we knew there was no turning back.Julie became unemployed and Mike's support through that difficult transition was further proof that he was the partner she needed. Julie's endless free time and ability to "beach it up" all summer long made Mike pretty sure he loved her. And on 6/9/2019, at Mingo Beach (on the property of Endicott, Mike's alma mater), we cried and said "I love you" for the first time.As the Fall came and Mike caught sight of the swanky updates to Julie's bathroom, we decided to take the next step of moving in together. Shortly thereafter, Julie took Mike to Bexley for Rosh Hashana. Here, he was grilled by Granny and Zaida and the Bexley extended family, and Julie accidentally took him ring shopping at Star Jewelers. After all that, Mike didn't elect to change his seat for the flight home, so he was clearly all in.Julie spent Christmas in Granby with the Johnsons and further became part of the family (read: made Mama and Papa J give reluctant hugs way too much).We went on a cruise to Mexico in February where we narrowly avoided a few disasters and learned the limits of Julie's planning capacities. And then, COVID hit.

COVID-19

The global pandemic really has thrown a wrench in everyone's lives and we have felt it deeply. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been personally impacted by this time. Emotionally, Julie has found this time really difficult to handle and was having a very hard time in the beginning months. Mike's ability to support her and ensure that she felt loved, heard, and held strengthened their relationship during this time.We also thought it was a great time to begin looking for a new house... so the beginning of the summer saw us defining our relationship and goals in terms of bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, and yard size. Although the hunt continues, the lead hunter is also the wedding planner, so it has taken its rightful spot on the back burner.

The Proposal

Almost every weekend, we try to make it out to Lynn Woods and Mike loves exploring it on his own to find the best possible spots (don't ask him about the water tower). When he stumbled upon a spectacular overlook offering views of Walden Pond (not the Walden Pond), he knew it was just the place.On Sunday, August 9th, we took Elphie and Nash (our nephew pup) on a nice long hike, punctuated by an emotional proposal. True to form, it took Julie approximately 5 minutes to notice that Mike's non sequitur declarations of love and appreciation were an actual proposal. Once that was clear, we both started sobbing. We're criers, the wedding day will be interesting...

We are getting married in Nahant, a very small town connected to the mainland by a thin road flanked by beaches (some of our favorite in the area!)

Historic Salem We highly recommend the historic Salem Inn. They do not offer room blocks as they are small, but it is a charming place to stay right in the hustle and bustle of Salem and it has free parking for guests. We will be arranging for a shuttle to bring guests to and from the venue from this area. If you do choose this hotel, be aware that it has a 3 night minimum and will be filling up fast because of the holiday weekend and spoooooky happenings in Salem in October.

Things to Do

Laura is Julie's younger sister. Despite being very different, they are united by their interest in education, vegetarian tendencies, and absolutely adorable puppies. As Laura begins her journey of home ownership, Julie couldn't be more proud- and ready with unsolicited advice!

From Hodgdon to Environmental Science courses to forced beer pong participation, Issy helped shape Julie's college experience and has been a great friend since day 1. Julie and Issy push each other's boundaries in a way that guarantees constant growth for both of them.

Issy

Liz and Julie have been fast friends since that fateful CVS trip on the way to the beach. Through ups and downs, Liz has always been there, whether geographically or just in spirit, and, in return, Julie promises not to steal her first born.

Catie first appeared in Julie's life as a "bonus"-- her husband was one of Julie's first college friends. Since then, she has become a faithful confidant, always prepared to be supportive, make vegetarian stuffing for Friendsgiving, diagnose ailments, and giggle at mindless youtube content.

Since the early days at the Tufts library, Carly and Julie have enjoyed getting over-caffeinated together. Carly keeps Julie on solid ground, and Julie drags Carly's sensitive side out, and together they drive Alden crazy.

A Craigslist roommate success story, Alia and Julie are basically common-law married-- sorry Mike! Alia's bright spirit has pulled Julie out of many a funk, and Julie remains ever-happy to rush to Alia's side when she gets into a jam (which obviously never happens).

Nicholas and Julie found each other day 1 of Teach for America. From there, they supported each other through the trials of teaching, discovered University of Wash, had crack o' dawn dance parties, and cackled at things that made nobody else laugh. Nicholas was Elph's first dad,  Julie's first husband, and Nicki's first son. Trifecta achieved!

It was that fateful day during Algebra class in 8th grade when, after returning from winter vacation, Mr. Gross announced a quiz on factoring trinomials was coming at the end of the week. Spencer turned around to MJ and asked, what the hell does factoring trinomials mean? The tests returned, Spencer got a grade of 32, and the two have been best friends ever since. Their initial bond centered around the early 2000s Boston Celtics. Great sadness ensued when Antoine Walker was traded. The highest of highs occured in 2008 when the Celtics won the championship. The two constantly visited each other throughout college and continue to do so as Spence basically lives in Canada now with his beautiful wife Nicole and their future heart throb of a child Marcus. 

Spencer

The ultimate golf bro. Mike and Mike met at Endicott College and instantly became great friends. Their initial bond over rap music throughout their early 20s quickly turned to a shared obsession with golf in their late 20s/early 30s -- which is exactly how they spend most of their time together these days. They’ve spent the better part of the past decade together, including time in Australia, Denver, and most recently as roommates in Boston -- up until it was time to actually grow up and move in with their significant others.

Mike aka "Filly"

Stone is a Charlie Kelly type, in that he’s always the wild card of whatever group he’s a part of. Golf also serves as the centerpiece of Stone and MJ's friendship nowadays, but the two have been close since high school where they mostly played video games and basketball together. Stone is never one to shy away from a bet and he’s also strangely good at lawn games, bowling, and really anything else requiring hand-eye coordination. The man is truly one of a kind.

Mike and Andrew also met during freshman year of college at Endicott and were roommates for sophomore year. Out at parties Andrew was always nice enough to keep an eye on MJ and two eyes on whoever was the prettiest girl in the room. Despite living in separate states, they still share a tradition unlike any other, where along with Filly they get together to watch the Masters and reminisce about old times. Andrew has an undeniably unique laugh and one cannot help but smile when he uncontrollably cackles at a joke or absurd situation.
