Josh and Julie met through a shared Minneapolis living arrangement back in 2007. Josh describes their first meeting at a house potluck as "extremely awkward," and Julie denies all memory of this. It took Josh several unsuccessful attempts to get Julie to go on a date with him, but he finally duped her into going out to the French Meadow Cafe on her 24th birthday.

They lived together in the Corcoran neighborhood before buying their current house in Powderhorn Park in 2010.

In February 2010 they found out they were having a baby. Scarlett Aster Kane was born October 24th, 2010 and has ruled their lives ever since. She has graciously allowed parents to borrow her 5th birthday as long as there is blueberry cake, balloons, and other kids to play with.
