USS Midway Museum

Picture of USS Midway Museum
910 N. Harbor Drive, San Diego, California 92101

Climb aboard the USS Midway, known for serving in both Operation Frequent Wind in 1975 and Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Take time to explore all the main areas of this famed aircraft carrier, including access to 29 carefully restored aircraft on the flight deck.

Visit the 60 exhibits, each steeped with the sights, sounds, and smells of the Midway's past. Step into the massive galley, tour the engine room, and walk through the private sleeping quarters of the sailors. Then head to the 4-acre (1.6-ha) flight deck to get an up-close view of the F-14 Tomcat and the TBM Avenger.

A day spent on board this floating city allows you to take a journey back in time with the original crew of the Midway. Listen to their voices on the audio tour as they offer firsthand accounts of daily life at sea. In addition, the volunteer docents—many of whom also served on the Midway—share their personal stories and anecdotes with you during your day of discovering a piece of American history.

The sun beats down on the grasslands as you look out over the plains, and for a second, you swear you feel the heat of the Kenyan savanna. Explore natural habitats and get up close and personal with more than 400 species of animals—from African elephants to zebras—at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Take off on a global adventure as you take a walk on the wild side at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The park is divided into regions, boasting ecosystems that simulate these real-world habitats of more than 3,200 animals. Get a look at the rhinos bathing in their oasis, lions snoozing in the sun, and meerkats diligently keeping watch over their burrows.

Zoom through the plains on the Africa Tram Safari, see just how fast a cheetah can run, and then make some friends and memories alike to the song of the birds as they perch on your hand at Lorikeet Landing. Be sure to catch the keeper talks and shows that take place throughout the day to learn more about fascinating Sumatran tigers, walk among adorable lemurs sunbathing and climbing around, and interact with the park's inquisitive animal ambassadors.

Immerse yourself in the animal kingdom at the San Diego Zoo, home to more than 4,000 animals across 800 rare and exotic species. Spend quality time with giant pandas, New Zealand kiwis, endangered sun bears, and Galápagos tortoises—the zoo’s oldest residents.

At the Polar Bear Plunge, get an up-close underwater view of these iconic Arctic bears as they swim and play. Visit Gorilla Tropics, one of the zoo’s bioclimatic zones, where the sights and sounds of a tropical rainforest closely mimic the African lowland gorilla’s natural habitat.

The Children’s Zoo includes a nursery with baby animals and a popular petting area where sheep and goats await their next cuddle. And in the Outback, you can see hopping kangaroos, cuddly koalas, and hot pink flamingos hanging with their friends.

If your feet need a rest, board one of the open-air double-decker buses for a 35-minute narrated tour around many of the zoo's best exhibits, take the Express Bus and hop on and off at 5 different stops, or snag a bird’s-eye view of the entire grounds with a high-flying ride on the Skyfari® Aerial Tram.
