It all began in 1985...

. . . when Mike Maddigan, Kevin Duff, and then Julie Tomaino started their freshman year at Georgetown. Mike and Julie met in their freshman dorm, New South. Later, Julie met Kevin and they began their love story. Julie introduced Kevin to Mike and they all became lifelong friends. Fast forward to 2011: their families would meet for the first time in Laguna Beach, CA when the Duffs were on family vacation. This is where Thomas and Kaitlyn met for the very first time. She was 12 and he was 14! They didn't talk much, but Thomas claims he thought Kaitlyn was cute! (She's skeptical. ;)) See below for Thomas seeing the Pacific Ocean for the first time and Kaitlyn trying to act unimpressed by the whole scene.

In 2016, Kaitlyn was on a college tour with her high school and she made sure to see Thomas at Boston College, even if it was only for a picture.

In 2019, Kaitlyn went to visit her friend Pia at Boston College. Thomas saw on Snapchat that Kaitlyn was at BC and Snapchat messaged her that they should meet for coffee! They met up and walked to Dunkin Donuts, and walked and talked around BC for three hours! They also met up the next day before Kaitlyn left to go back home.

After that trip, Kaitlyn and Thomas stayed very closely in touch for the next year, texting, Snapchatting, and FaceTiming. Finally, they decided that they should see where this was going. Kaitlyn took another trip to Boston to visit Thomas in early October 2020. They fell in love that weekend and here we are! :')

Fun Fact: Peter is incredibly creative! He often makes videos, plays the piano, and loves documenting all his great eats.

Fun Fact: Ellie is an amazing singer and loves to perform!

Elizabeth (Ellie) Maddigan

Fun Fact: Andrew can name over 100 professional athletes.

What to talk to Andrew about: sports, Boston College, sports, and, well, sports. 

Andrew Duff

Fun Fact: Aidyn was named the "6th Maddigan" before Ellie was even born. She had to be demoted to "7th Maddigan" but don't worry she's over it now. 
What to talk to Aidyn about: University of Wisconsin (Go Badgers!), and what she's binging on Netflix.

Aidyn Kehrli

Fun Fact: Sam is an avid gardener and creator. He is often trying to grow anything from lemons to figs to loofahs! What to talk to Sam about: gardening, Notre Dame sports, and being Francis' dad!

Sam Russo

Fun Fact: Elizabeth came on family vacation with the Maddigans to Cape Cod in 2014 and Kaitlyn made her be in charge of applying the face masks. We still enjoy a good moment at the spa today! What to talk to Elizabeth about: new recipes you have tried, studying abroad in El Salvador, and being Francis' mom! 

Elizabeth Duff-Russo

Fun Fact: Andrew is a movie aficionado. He sees multiple movies a week at different theaters across LA. What to talk to Andrew about: movies, playing basketball, and how he feels about being the oldest of 6 kids! 

Andrew Maddigan

Fun Fact: When playing hide and seek as children, Jody would always easily find Kaitlyn because she couldn't stop laughing. They still love laughing together <3. What to talk to Jody about: yoga, living in Nashville, and cool restaurants!

Fun Fact: Daniel knows a ton about history and philosophy . . . What to talk to Daniel about: current events, baseball, and how many traits he shares with our mom's side of the family.

Fun Fact: Kaitlyn and Pau met before either of them were officially dating a Duff boy, while abroad visiting Galway. They both thought to themselves, "Wow, I love that girl!" Now they're besties. What to talk to Pau about: Mexico, Legend of Zelda, and being a therapist!

Pau Mainou

Fun Fact: Ryan spent 3 months in the NICU when he was born which helped him develop an amazing sense of humor. What to talk to Ryan about: interning at the Alderman's office in Chicago, Legos, and the Dodgers. 

Ryan Maddigan

Fun Fact: Kaitlyn and Sophia met on the first day of Kindergarten. They've shared many major milestones together since then. Sophia knows the Maddigans' home phone number better than any other number.  What to talk to Sophia about: when she played Kaitlyn's mom in the SFX rendition of "Sleeping Beauty", playing tennis, and the next trip you're going on!

Sophia Augustine

Fun Fact: Thomas and Amir met on the first day of undergrad in Loyola Hall when Amir introduced himself to Thomas and asked if he wanted to go meet some people together. They've been friends ever since. What to talk to Amir about: Boston sports, the TV show Friends, and Northwestern Kellogg School of Business!

Amir Parikh

Fun Fact: Kaitlyn did not like Gracie when she first met her. They were both in the school play together and Kaitlyn thought Grace was loud. As they spent more time together during the show, Kaitlyn could not help but fall in love with Gracie's infectious laugh and hilarious sense of humor. What to talk to Gracie about: the movies she has produced + directed, her favorite recipes, and her newest writing project. 

Gracie Roebuck

Fun Fact: Jack was the first person to see Kaitlyn & Thomas reunited in Boston the weekend they started dating. To this day, Jack recounts that it was immediately apparent that Kaitlyn was "smitten with my boy".
What to talk to Jack about: The Bar Exam - which he will have just finished taking three days before the wedding! Actually, don't talk to him about that . . . get him a drink instead. ;)

Jack Baschwitz

Fun Fact: Pia and Kaitlyn became friends the spring of their freshman year of high school on a school trip to Italy. They both convinced their assigned roommates to switch so that they could room together instead. They've enjoyed many trips together including a second one to Italy in 2023! What to talk to Pia about: pop culture, working in fashion, and to name Kaitlyn's entire extended family (it's quite impressive).

Pia Montanez

Fun Fact: Michael is Thomas' oldest friend. He has lived so many fun places including New Orleans while he was in the Jesuit Volunteer Corp. 
What to talk to Michael about: going to Ireland, his Good Will Hunting tattoo, and being a social worker.

Michael Winters

Fun Fact: In high school, Lolly's house was Kaitlyn's second home. They spent countless hours together eating, hanging out with friends, and watching Law & Order: SVU. 
What to talk to Lolly about: The Jonas Brothers, living in the Pacific Northwest, and why she likes to hold Kaitlyn's hand.

Fun Fact: Sofie has just as big of an extended family as Kaitlyn and that was something they always bonded about when becoming friends.
