-K&S met on December 31, 2014 at a mutual friend's New Year's Eve dinner tradition at Sushi Oka Hibachi in Vail Village. They were the first two to arrive and grabbed a drink at the bar while waiting for friends and struck up a conversation. Kaitlyn left that night with a feeling that Stephen would be an important person in her life, aka her "ski shaman."

-K&S ran into each other again in the Summer of 2015 when Stephen wandered the (Matter)hood looking for a friend's lost dog. They exchanged numbers and went for a few bike rides and dinners.

-K&S decided to travel to Nicaragua together for 2 weeks in October 2015, which meant they were "official."
