With a little bit of luck and mutual friends…

We never would have imagined that we would find each other while living 1000 miles apart. All it took was a mutual friend. While in Kaitlyn’s 3rd year of residency, Marsha Nahra (one of Kaitlyn’s Attending mentors) had an idea to set Kaitlyn up with her son’s Navy friend, Moe. Kaitlyn and Moe seemed like a good match. Both had a shared interest in medicine. He was a little more interested in being set up than she was. Dr. Nahra facilitated a long distant phone number exchange and the rest is history. Although Moe and Kaitlyn have been long distance for their entire relationship since July 2019, this hasn’t affected their strong connection one bit. On July 6th at 6:30 am in St. Augustine, Moe and Kaitlyn became engaged. Since then, we have been enjoying every moment we can spend with one another while living 9 hours apart. We are excited to continue integrating our family and friends and we look forward to seeing all of you at our wedding!

They offer an hour-long horseback ride through their shady, 3.5 mile trail featuring beautiful trees, streams and mountain views. Great for both adults and kids!

Nantahala Outdoor Center located about an hour outside of town. They offer full or half-day white water rafting trips and 6 different rivers to choose from, NOC offers a wide range of trips and packages for any skill level.

4.0 miles one way to Charlies Bunion with elevation change of 1,600 feet; this is a firm-packed trail that traverses some exposed cliffs. Driving to the Trailhead: Drive on Newfound Gap Road to Newfound Gap parking lot which is 13.2 miles from Sugarlands Visitor Center or 16 miles from Oconaluftee Visitor Center. The trailhead is to the left of the overlook, at the end of the parking lot near the restrooms.

Charlies Bunion

The hike to Laurel Falls is 2.6 miles and is considered moderate in difficulty. The falls are 80-foot high and it takes about 2 hours to hike to the waterfall and back. The most photographed falls in the Smoky Mountains.

Laurel Falls

The hike to Hen Wallow Falls is 4.4 miles roundtrip and considered moderate in difficulty. Hen Wallow Creek, only two feet wide at the top of the falls, fans out to 20 feet at the base. The waterfall is 90 feet high. Hikers can continue on the Gabes Mountain Trail beyond the falls to enjoy an impressive old-growth forest.

Great hiking near the Smokies. It is a self-contained trail. It's starts off nice and easy - and really is a pretty easy hike throughout. An easy one mile walk on shaded trails which crosses several footbridges. Great for beginners!

Cades Cove is a broad, verdant valley surrounded by mountains and is one of the most popular destinations in the Great Smokies.
