Things to Do

San Francisco

Picture of San Francisco

San Francisco is one of the top tourist destinations in the United States, San Francisco is known for its steep rolling hills and eclectic mix of architecture across varied neighborhoods, as well as its cool summers, fog, and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Alcatraz, and Chinatown and Mission districts.

One of Kajel's favorite spots is San Francisco is Land's End . Its an easy walk/hike with beautiful views of the bridge and water (as long as its not foggy).

For food you should also need to try Boudin for amazing bread bowls and Ghirardelli square for decadent ice cream sundaes. But you really can't go wrong with most Asian or seafood in SF.

Carmel by the Sea

There are so many things to do near Carmel-by-the-sea.

I would recommend doing the "17 mile drive". It is one of the prettiest drives in the area and has designated stops where you can see different view points of the stunning landscape.

For those that love beaches, pebble beach is one of the many stunning beach in the area that you can visit. The water might still be too cold to swim in but the walk along the beach is absolutely gorgeous. Plus you get to get to see part of the Pebble Beach golf course from the beach for all the golf entusiasts . The town of carmel is also very adorable with cute boutique shops and restaurants.

For the hikers/walkers out there, a little past Carmel-by the Sea is one of Kajel's favorite state parks called Point Lobos. It has easy to moderate trails that are all along the coast line with unreal views of the Monterey bay.

Muir Woods National Monument

This is a little bit past San Francisco, but definitely worth the visit!

Muir Woods National Monument is in Marin County, California, just a few miles north of San Francisco. The 558-acre monument preserves one of the last remaining ancient redwood forests in the Bay Area. Some of the redwoods are nearly 1,000 years old and reach heights of more than 250 feet.

Yosemite National Park

This one is a little bit of a drive to get to but if you are staying a few extra days I would definitely recommend going.

The park is noted for its outstanding scenery—including peaks, canyons, cliffs, domes, rivers, lakes, immense waterfalls, lush green meadows, wildlife, and forests. Yosemite National Park contains a unique assemblage of massive granite domes and glacial features, which resulted from a rich geologic history.

Half Moon Bay

Half Moon Bay is a gorgeous coastal community located approximately 35 minutes south of San Francisco that features the best of Northern California all in one place. Renowned restaurants, fresh local produce, family-friendly farms, quaint shops, historical buildings, golf courses, art galleries, beaches, world famous surfing, horseback riding on the beach, nearby wineries and redwood forests are in abundance all along a unique rocky shoreline.

Pro-tip: the Ritz Carlton there has amazing drinks and have a Scottish bagpipe player everyday at sunset. The Sunsets there are absolutely gorgeous. Nothing better than a nice drink, beautiful sunset views, with the sounds of bagpipes and the ocean in the background.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

If you have kids or love beach boardwalks Santa Cruz boardwalk is where Kajel went to a lot when she was younger. Its an amusement park on a beach, what is not to love about that?

Napa Valley

For all the wine lovers out there. You are only a few short hours away from Wine Country in Napa Valley. A romantic getaway for a fun outing with friends with wine tasting and hot air balloon ride, and a cute downtown area.
