Our Story

It all began swiping on Bumble.

In true Matt Meyer fashion, he opened up with one of his punny dad jokes, “what’s the difference between a well dressed man on a bicycle and a poorly dressed man on a unicycle?” He patiently waited over a week for a response, which was well worth the wait, since once Kali finally opened the message, she was immediately captivated by his sense of humor and confidence.

After chatting a few weeks, they decided to meet at Fat Rosie’s in Schaumburg. Unbeknownst to Kali, she broke Matt’s “first date rule” by ordering dinner - instead of just drinks & appetizers.

He was happily willing to bend that rule for her, and just to spend more time together, they adventured out to Portillos for dessert. Matt introduced Kali to the off-the-menu strawberry cake shake, which completely won her over. They were both amazed how fast the time went and how easily the conversation flowed.

Each time Matt and Kali went out they had a blast. They enjoyed country music, concerts, food, trying new things, and visiting different places; they were OK with staying in, rather than always going out and they both valued their relationship with friends and families.

As their feelings grew, it was crucial to both Matt and Kali to receive the approval of their family, closest friends and most importantly, Kali’s son Coen.

Their friends and family enjoyed seeing how organic Matt and Kali's relationship was and how well each fit into one another's lives. It was clear they made eachother very happy and also, had similarities and differences which complemented one another well.

It came time for Matt to meet Coen. Matt had come over to Kali and Coen's house. The three of them played games and Coen made sure to show Matt all of his toys. Coen had taken to Matt immediately, and Kali loved seeing their relationship blossom. It was natural and easy.

The Engagement - June 22nd, 2023

Kali and Matt had plans to go see Morgan Wallen at Wrigley Field (one of their favorite country artists), spend the night in the city and enjoy the following day at the Museum of Science and Industry. The plan was for Kali to meet Matt at his house and they would head to the city.

Kali had arrived a little late and entered through Matt's side door which lead to the kitchen. She was disheveled and had several bags in tote which had distracted her from the surprise in the other room. Once Kali put the bags down, she noticed a rose and bottle of champagne on the counter. She had yelled over to Matt without looking up, "Awww, what's this? OoOoO, what are we celebrating?"

Kali then turned and there was a beautiful set up waiting for her. The entryway table had been decorated with flowers, greenery, lanterns with candles and lights, and several pictures of them taken throughout their relationship. Additionally, there was a sign hanging on a decorated arch asking, "Will you marry me?" with Matt standing off to the side. Kali took in the moment, embraced Matt and said "sure, why not?" Both laughed and Matt replied "I didn't ask yet." Kali had responded to the sign. He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and asked "Will you marry me?" Of course she responded "Yes!"
