Starting in 2024, American passport holders traveling to 30 European countries (including Greece) will need authorization via the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). The application can be filled out via web portal or mobile phone and will cost a small fee ($8). You'll be asked to share personal information such as your date of birth, parents' names and details about your current occupation and previous criminal convictions. You'll also need to share a passport that is not set to expire in less than three months. It is recommended to apply no later than a month before travel.
How do I get to Rhodes?
Since Rhodes (RHO) is such a small airport, travellers from the US will always have one connecting flight. Usually the connecting flight is either in Athens, Zurich, London, Munich or Frankfurt.
Do I need to rent a car?
We highly recommend renting a car to freely explore the beautiful island of Rhodes. Some car rental companies may require an International Driver's License that can be purchased for a small fee. Manual cars are more abundant and cheaper to rent although automatic cars can also be rented.
If you do not want to rent a car there are plenty of taxis as well! Uber or Lyft is not available on the island.
What's the weather like?
Sunny & dry with the average temperature being in the mid-high 80s. There is very little to no chance of rain.
What is the best way to exchange currencies?
The current exchange is 1 USD to 0.92 Euros. You can order Euros before traveling from most U.S. banks. If you prefer to pick up Euros when you arrive to Greece, you can exchange at the airport, ATMs, or local banks. Be aware though that ATMs and airports tend to have worse exchange rates and withdrawal fees. Major credit cards are also accepted almost everywhere.
Should I bring an adapter?
Yes, please bring European adapters. Ladies, if your appliances are not dual voltage (usually hair dryers) you will need a transformer and adapter.
Can I drink the tap water?
No. Bottled water and cocktails recommended.
When should I book flights?
The best time to buy your tickets will be January-March for the cheapest tickets, anything before or after you may end up over spending or having longer delays.
When should I arrive in Greece?
The wedding is on Saturday the 29th, and the post-wedding pool party brunch is on Sunday the 30th. Plan for a full day of travel in and out of Europe. We would recommend departing the US on the 27th at the lastest.
