We are so excited to invite you to celebrate our wedding in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. As many of you know, Karen was born and raised in Colombia. While we would have loved to host our wedding in her hometown Bucaramanga, Cartagena is the perfect location for a getaway for all of us. We are&nbsp;going on an adventure, and we're taking you with us.Expect magical and colorful colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, delectable local cuisine, magnificent cathedrals, bustling plazas, open-air cafes, vibrant music, and lush ornamental vines cascading off balconies. And dancing. Lots of dancing. We know not everyone will be able to make the journey, which we wholeheartedly understand. For those who can celebrate with us, we promise a weekend to remember.

GETTING THERE

If you are flighting from Philadelphia International Airport, you can book with American Airlines, JetBlue, or Spirit. Please be aware all the flights have a connection in Miami or Fort Lauderdale.&nbsp; There are daily non-stop flights to Cartagena (Rafael Núñez Airport) from Newark New Jersey, JFK New York ( 5 hours), Miami/Fort Lauderdale (2.5 hours), and Atlanta (4 hours) * * Book your flights as soon as possible. Cartagena is a small city, and fares will increase as the wedding date approaches. ** If you are driving to the airport before your flight, we recommend using SpotHero and Way apps to find parking around the airport with the best rates.&nbsp;

GETTING TO THE HOTEL

Hotel Hyatt Regency is located in Bocagrande, a 15 minutes drive from the airport.Ubers works in Cartagena; plenty of taxis will be lined up outside the airport (it should cost about $20,000 - 25,000 COP * $7-10 US dollars*. Confirm this with your driver in advance).&nbsp;Pay in cash COP. Alternatively, you can organize transportation in advance through&nbsp;<a href="http://www.gematours.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Gema Tours</a>. You can call them or use the app WhatsApp. Gema Tour also offers tours in Cartagena and all of Colombia if you wish to visit other places during your time there.&nbsp; Outside of baggage claim, there is a place to exchange money or ATMs in the airport's departure area. You can always reach out to your local bank back at home ( most of the banks in the States have other countries currencies.)&nbsp;

There is a large shopping mall, Bocagrande Plaza, next door.&nbsp;Also, Olympica grocery store is around the corner if you want to get some goodies (you can buy liquor in any grocery store in Colombia). And it's just a 10-15 minute walk into the Walled City or a short ride (about COP 10,000 - $3 US ). The Hyatt has plenty of cabs out front.&nbsp;

You need a valid passport. DO I NEED TO SPEAK SPANISH?

Cartagena is very tourist-friendly, with many hotel concierges and most restaurant and bar staff speaking EnglishHowever, if you feel like brushing up on your Español. In that case, we recommend downloading the free app, DuoLingo, or taking a few minutes to bone up on your&nbsp;<a href="https://www.iwillteachyoualanguage.com/learn/spanish/spanish-tips/spanish-travel-phrases" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">travel phrases</a>, for fun and the easy, gamified way to learn as much or as little Spanish you like. But almost anything can be accomplished with smiling and pointing.

WHAT'S THE CURRENCY AND HOW DO I TAKE OUT CASH?

Colombian Pesos, or COP. The exchange rate as of writing is$1 USD = $3,400 COPUseful conversions:$10,000 COP = $3 USD$25,000 COP = $7 USD$100,000 COP = $30 USD The best places to take out cash are ATMs. There's one in the departures area of the airport (you need to leave customs and re-enter) and several throughout the Walled City. While there are cash exchanges all over, we recommend against them because the exchange rates are usually not as competitive.Credit cards are widely accepted. We recommend double checking whether your bank charges foreign transaction fees, and letting them know you will be travelling abroad to prevent your bank from freezing your card. ** Understand your pesos. Get familiar with the paper money. Don't mix up a 2,000 COP w/ a 20,000 COP. It happens to the best of us. Get familiar with your cash and organize it from small to large.**

Travelers should be prepared to show their original physical vaccination card or digital certificate both at airline check-in and when passing through Colombian Immigration. The vaccination document must include the individual's full name, date of vaccination, name of the vaccine administered, and the number of doses administered. A photo of one's vaccination card may not be accepted.
