Weather & Attire
May is a wildcard. The forecast has changed every day I have looked at it. Prepare for light rain and cool weather in semi-formal attire.
The ceremony is outdoor on the grass and the gorge can get windy too. Guys, if you bring a wind-breaker or a sport coat you should be fine.
What this means for the ladies: Wear whatever you feel the most beautiful in with the understanding that Mother-Earth might have something to say about it. The following style choices might be a gamble due to weather:
- Fancy/White shoes, unless you bring something else to wear outside.
- Loose short skirts, high slits, or other garments that get carried away with the wind.
- Stainable fabrics, rain drops can ruin velvet, silk, etc.
With that being said, we are not going hiking, or mudding, or walking through the country. The weather is going to be very mild. You shouldn't wear cargo shorts, camo, jeans, workin' boots, hilarious printed T-shirts (Sage), denim overalls, JNCOs (not weather-related), or Crocs (ever).
How far away is the venue from Portland (PDX)?
The venue is about an hour from Portland. The road in, though a main freeway, is windy, winding, and gorgeous! You'll want to leave extra time to stop and sight see, such as taking pictures at Multnomah Falls.
We do not have a shuttle to Cascade Locks from Portland, but we do have a single shuttle going back that evening. If you would like to take advantage of that shuttle please text us directly.
What about accommodations?
We will post accommodation recommendations on the travel page. For a quick overview;
The venue itself is a campground with RV parking available (12' tall max). There are multiple hotels, motels, and bnbs available in the area as this is a popular getaway destination. Cascade Locks OR, Stevenson WA, and Hood River OR are the 3 closest towns if you plan on staying near the venue and making a mini-vacation out of the trip.
What is the timeline for the day?
We plan to have a cocktail hour at 12:45. We aren’t expecting everyone to be punctual on the dot, so come at your leisure. However, if the weather is spotty that day we may move the ceremony forward slightly or back to catch a break in the rain. Plan accordingly!
The reception will be over around 4pm at which time we are headed across the street for dinner. If you want to join us for dinner but did not RSVP 'yes' for that please let us know as soon as possible.
Parking
Yes, there is parking at the venue. You will not have to pay as a guest of our wedding. We do encourage those staying in the area to carpool there and we will shuttle everyone back after dinner. If you are not coming to dinner you will want to drive.
Bridge of the Gods (Toll)
The bridge connecting Oregon an Washington here is a toll bridge. The rate is typically $3 and you do have to pay both ways. Bring cash if you will be traveling across it to make it easy, but they do accept card.
After Dinner Shuttle
We will have a shuttle after dinner to help get guests back to their hotels in the area. The shuttle will begin at 6:00 running every 15-20 minutes, and will continue to about 7:45.
The last shuttle at 8:00 will be going to Portland. If you want to be on this shuttle please let me know so I can reserve your spot. Any open spots at the end of the night are first come first serve.
Will there be food?
This is a Cupcake and Cocktail reception. There will be A snack and cupcakes, but you should plan to eat before you arrive.
